Google released a system update for the Chromecast with Google TV, bringing with it some notable improvements to device connectivity. According to the update changelog, the latest update aims to streamline the process of connecting audio and Bluetooth devices to the TV streaming stick.
The update, which is around 169MB in size, adds faster device pairing through the Fast Pair feature. This feature, available on other Android devices, enables quick and seamless syncing for Bluetooth accessories like headphones and speakers. Users with compatible Bluetooth devices such as Pixel Buds Pro can now simply flip open the case near the Chromecast to start the pairing process.
In addition to faster connectivity, users now have more granular control over audio output switching. The updates add a new “Audio output” switcher in the Quick Settings menu, allowing users to easily toggle between HDMI audio, Bluetooth audio devices, and more. This should make it simpler to redirect computer or smartphone audio to the Chromecast for streaming music, video calls, and more.
Rounding out the changes, the update brings the usual set of unspecified bug fixes and performance improvements. The Chromecast’s firmware appears unchanged in this update.
The update is slowly rolling out now to Chromecast users. To check for the update manually, head to Settings > System > About > System update. With streamlined device connectivity and management, it’s an update current Chromecast owners will want to install.
