Here’s how it works: Everyone will now see 24 default colors available right out of the gate. But the real magic happens on the web version of Google Calendar, where you can tap into a full RGB color picker. This means you can finally dial in exact hex codes to match your project aesthetic, coordinate with your company’s brand colors, or just find the perfect pastel that keeps your eyes from glazing over during a hectic week.

Once you’ve curated those colors on the web or via the Calendar API, they will sync across to your mobile apps, ensuring your color-coded system stays consistent no matter where you are checking your schedule.

It is worth noting that this update is a “silent” rollout of sorts—there are no complex admin toggles or settings for IT departments to manage. It’s simply being turned on for everyone, from personal account holders to Google Workspace enterprise customers. If you don’t see the new options immediately, don’t sweat it; the rollout is being handled in stages. Rapid Release domains started seeing the update around June 17, while those on Scheduled Release domains are slated to get the feature starting June 29, with a full deployment expected to take a few weeks.
