Move over, automobiles, DJI is taking its technological expertise to a new lane: electric bikes. The company, synonymous with high-quality drones and camera stabilizers, has unveiled its Amflow brand and its debut e-bike, the Amflow PL. This feature-packed electric mountain bike boasts an impressive powertrain and lightweight design, making it a serious contender in the high-end e-bike market.

The Amflow PL serves as a rolling showcase for DJI’s brand new Avinox drive system. This system packs a punch, with a maximum torque of 120Nm and a whopping 1000W of on-demand boost power to conquer even the most daunting climbs. For everyday riding, the mid-drive motor offers a quieter operation with a 250W nominal output that can crank up to 850W at peak.

But power isn’t everything. The Amflow PL manages to keep its weight down to a manageable 19.2kg (42 pounds) thanks to a combination of a lightweight 2.27kg carbon fiber frame and the 2.52kg Avinox drive system itself. This makes it surprisingly sprightly for an e-bike, especially considering the beefy 800Wh battery that provides ample range.

Speaking of the battery, the Amflow PL boasts a fast-charging capability that can take it from zero to 75% in just 1.5 hours using Amflow’s proprietary 2A/508W GaN charger. That’s a significant advantage for riders who don’t want to be tethered to a charging station for hours after a long ride.

Tech lovers will appreciate the Amflow PL’s integrated two-inch color OLED touchscreen display mounted directly on the frame. This display provides real-time riding data, while the accompanying Avinox app offers even more control and information. The app allows you to connect wirelessly to your bike, access detailed ride data, and even track the bike’s location in case of theft. Safety is further enhanced by an alarm system that sounds in case of tampering.

For a truly customized riding experience, the Amflow PL offers four pedal-assist modes, including an innovative auto mode that adjusts power delivery based on the terrain and resistance you encounter. Rounding out the impressive feature set is a USB charging port to keep your devices juiced up, high-quality Fox suspension for a smooth ride, and a frame that can accommodate both 27.5-inch and 29-inch rear wheels for ultimate versatility.

DJI isn’t new to pushing boundaries with technology. “Our expertise in battery and motor technology accumulated in drones and camera stabilization systems, have led us to the creation of Avinox,” says Christina Zhang, senior director of corporate strategy at DJI. “It is a natural move for DJI to expand into this field as we have been mastering the technologies essential to an electric bike system, in terms of reliable motor development, battery management, mechanical design and engineering.”

This strategic move aligns with DJI’s recent forays into other sectors. The company has been developing intelligent driving solutions for automobiles in China and has even entered the consumer battery market with its own line of power stations.

The Amflow PL is expected to hit the market in Q4 of this year. While pricing hasn’t been officially confirmed, DJI anticipates it to fall between €7,000 and €12,000 ($7,500 and $12,850), putting it squarely in competition with premium electric mountain bikes like Specialized’s Turbo series. Look for the Amflow PL to be available at authorized dealers in Germany, the UK, and Australia, with more regions likely to follow.
