Cyberpunk 2077’s long-awaited arrival on macOS is finally upon us: as of tomorrow, July 17, 2025, Apple Silicon Macs everywhere will be able to dive into Night City. CD Projekt Red has taken care to optimize the game across the entire M‑series lineup, from the entry‑level M1 all the way to the nascent M4 Max family—using dynamic “for this Mac” presets that tailor every setting to your hardware. Whether you’re on an older M1 MacBook Air or a brand‑new Mac Studio, there’s a configuration that’ll get you playing—though if you want the very highest fidelity, you’ll need to be packing the latest and greatest.

At the heart of the macOS port is a smart preset system. When you first launch Cyberpunk 2077, it will scan your Apple Silicon chip and unified memory, then assign you to one of four tiers—Minimum, Recommended, High Fidelity, or Very High Fidelity. These presets automatically set resolution, texture quality, and dynamic resolution scaling thresholds via Apple’s MetalFX API, so you won’t have to finagle sliders to find the best balance of visuals and performance. MetalFX DRS (dynamic resolution scaling) works similarly to AMD’s FSR, upscaling from a lower internal buffer to your target resolution, which boosts frame rates without a huge hit to image quality.

If you’ve got an M1 Mac with at least 16GB of unified memory, you’ll slot into the Minimum preset. Expect 30fps at either 1440 × 900 or 1600 × 900 (with MetalFX DRS doing the heavy lifting). This configuration delivers playable performance for those earliest M1 devices, though with more modest visuals—think medium textures and shadows set to low. It’s a far cry from maxed‑out PC settings, but it’s impressive that the original M1 chip can handle one of the heaviest AAA titles in recent memory.

For a solid 60fps experience at 1080p, you’ll need at least an M3 Pro (or any later chip) paired with 18GB of unified memory. This Recommended tier cranks up textures and effects to a higher level, with MetalFX DRS maintaining a crisp image. On slightly older silicon—say an early M2 Pro—you may still hit near‑60fps if you drop below 1080p, but CD Projekt Red’s sweet spot is the M3 Pro. Notebookcheck confirms that 18GB is the bare minimum for smooth 1080p performance at this tier.

Level up to an M2 Ultra or M3 Max with 36GB of unified memory, and you unlock the High Fidelity preset. Here, Cyberpunk 2077 runs at 1440p with a target 60fps, using MetalFX DRS to keep frame rates locked in. Texture detail, ambient occlusion, and crowd density all get a significant boost, making Night City’s neon glow and dense streets pop on high‑end Mac Studio or Mac Pro setups.

Finally, the Very High Fidelity tier is reserved for M3 Ultra or M4 Max machines with 36GB of memory. This configuration squeezes every drop of performance out of Apple’s top silicon: maxed‑out settings, 1440p target resolution, and 60fps courtesy of MetalFX DRS. If you’ve splurged on the latest Mac Studio with an M4 Max, this is where you’ll see Cyberpunk 2077 shine—albeit without ray tracing by default.

By default, none of these presets enable ray tracing. If you’re itching to see Cyberpunk with reflections and shadows powered by Apple’s hardware‑accelerated ray tracing, you’ll need an M3 chip or newer. CD Projekt Red recommends an M3 Pro (18GB) for the Medium ray tracing preset at 1080p and 30fps, while an M3 Max or better (36GB) is required to hit 60fps with Medium ray tracing at 1080p (MetalFX DRS on). Given the performance penalty, ray tracing is best left off unless you have those upper‑tier chips—and even then, expect to tinker with resolution for smooth gameplay.

Beyond presets and ray tracing, AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling and frame generation are also supported on Mac. These features can squeeze extra performance out of your hardware—particularly handy on mid‑range machines where you might flirt with the edge of a preset’s limits. Mixing FSR, MetalFX DRS, and frame generation can deliver surprisingly stable frame rates, letting you tailor visuals and performance to your taste.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on Mac includes the base game, all updates to date, and the Phantom Liberty expansion—making this the definitive package for Mac users. It’ll be available tomorrow on the Mac App Store, Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG [.com], with full cross‑progression supported across platforms. So, whether you’re starting fresh on a MacBook Pro or diving back into Night City on a Mac Studio, the future is yours—pun intended.
