After years of rumors and leaks, it appears Apple is finally set to release the long-awaited Beats Solo4 on-ear headphones next month. The new wireless headphones promise a bevy of upgrades and improvements while keeping the same $199.99 price tag as their predecessors from 2016.

The latest details and expected launch timing come courtesy of a new filing on the FCC database, as reported by 9to5Mac. According to their sources, the Beats Solo4 will be available starting May 2nd for $199.99, delivering a serious value proposition in 2024 dollars.

So what can we expect from this next generation of Beats‘ popular on-ear cans? For starters, a massive upgrade in battery life – doubling the stamina from 25 hours to a robust 50 hours of wireless playback on a single charge. Apple has also added quick charge capabilities, with just 10 minutes of Fast Fuel charging providing up to 5 hours of on-the-go listening.

The acoustics are also getting an overhaul, with Beats outfitting the Solo4 with custom 40mm drivers promising improved clarity and range across the entire frequency spectrum. Apple is deploying new “beam-forming” microphone arrays as well, using voice-targeting algorithms to deliver crystal clear call quality.

Apple isn’t skimping on the premium experience either. The cushions have been upgraded to “UltraPlush” earpads for enhanced all-day comfort. And the whole package weighs in at just 217 grams while retaining the collapsible, portable design of its predecessor.

One of the most significant changes is a long-overdue move to USB-C charging and high-resolution audio support. But fans of the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack can rejoice – the Solo4 will include that analog port for passive, lossless playback sans battery drain.

The headphones will of course integrate tightly with Apple’s ecosystem, supporting Spatial Audio with Dynamic Head Tracking as well as the handy “Find My” locating feature. But Android users aren’t being left out, as the Solo4 will offer one-touch pairing for those devices as well.

All of these enhancements arrive for the same $199 price as the aging Beats Solo3, which first debuted back in 2016 for the wireless on-ear market. It’s a strategic move from Beats and Apple to deliver tremendous value to more cost-conscious shoppers.

The Beats Solo4 will join Apple’s existing headphone lineup that includes premium offerings like the Beats Studio Pro as well as the more affordable Beats Studio Buds. With its aggressive $199 pricing, the new Solo4 seems poised to be the sweet spot for many looking to upgrade to Apple’s latest wireless audio experience.

While an official announcement is still forthcoming, all signs point to the Beats Solo4 arriving at retailers and Apple Stores beginning next month. Audiophiles on a budget would be wise to mark May 2nd on their calendars.
