Audible, a leading audiobook platform, is testing a new section that uses your Prime Video viewing history to recommend audiobooks. This innovative feature is currently being tested on half of all users who have both Audible and Amazon Prime, with no option to opt-out at this time. The new carousel, titled “Based on what you watched recently on Prime Video,” appears on both mobile and web applications and offers audiobooks relevant to your recent Prime Video watchlist.
The feature is based on Audible’s observation of connections between new releases on Prime Video and the audiobooks people listen to. For instance, after the debut of the TV series “Reacher” on Prime Video in 2022, the average daily listening minutes for Jack Reacher author Lee Child’s books increased by 80 percent. This trend suggests that there is a natural synergy between TV, movies, and books, and Audible is capitalizing on this synergy to enhance its users’ listening experience.
Audible has also partnered with Amazon MGM to co-produce TV series based on Audible audiobooks and podcasts. This partnership further solidifies the connection between the two platforms and highlights Audible’s commitment to exploring new ways to engage its audience.
Andy Tsao, the chief product & analytics officer at Audible, emphasized the connection between TV, movies, and books in a statement, saying, “There is a natural synergy between TV, movies and books, and we see that clearly in how our customers engage with content on Audible.” With Spotify now offering audiobooks, Audible’s introduction of this feature is likely an effort to keep its audience engaged and loyal to the platform.
