Apple has unveiled the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K, bringing its A19 chip, a more conversational Siri AI experience, hands-free voice controls, and an upgraded Siri Remote to its streaming device. Announced today, October 13, 2026, the new Apple TV 4K also introduces a four-speaker surround sound setup with compatible HomePod speakers and adds more AI-powered capabilities for managing a connected home.
The new streaming box is designed to do more than play movies and TV shows. With Apple’s next-generation Apple Intelligence features, it aims to make finding something to watch, getting information about on-screen content, and controlling smart home accessories easier. Apple also claims substantial performance improvements over the previous generation.
Apple TV 4K brings Siri AI to the living room
The biggest change is the arrival of Siri AI, a more capable and conversational version of Apple’s voice assistant powered by the next generation of Apple Intelligence. Instead of relying primarily on traditional voice commands, users can interact with Siri through a full-screen experience designed to help them discover entertainment and explore recommendations.
For example, viewers can ask which Apple TV shows won Emmy Awards in a particular year and receive relevant suggestions with artwork from the Apple TV app. They can also ask follow-up questions while watching a show, such as where it was filmed or whether it is appropriate for a 15-year-old.

Siri AI can also use personal context from a paired, Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone to respond to requests such as playing a show recommended by a contact. Responses to questions asked during playback appear in a compact overlay, allowing viewers to get information without completely taking over the screen.
Apple says Siri AI will be available as a beta on Apple TV 4K (second generation and later), rather than being exclusive to the new hardware. The beta requires tvOS 27.2, an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad running the latest software, and Siri AI enabled in a supported language. Apple lists the US, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK among the launch markets, with English supported at launch.
Built-in microphones enable hands-free controls
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K includes three far-field microphones, allowing users to speak to Siri without picking up the remote or relying on a HomePod as the voice-input device.
Apple has also added advanced echo cancellation to help the microphones distinguish a user’s voice from audio playing through the television or speakers. This should make voice recognition more practical during movies and shows, when background audio could otherwise interfere with commands.
The built-in microphones are a notable hardware change because they make hands-free interaction a core part of the streaming box itself. However, microphone support for Siri varies by region and language, so availability depends on the device’s configured language and local support.
A19 chip delivers faster performance
Apple has equipped the new Apple TV 4K with its A19 chip, replacing the processor in the previous generation. According to Apple, the new chip delivers up to 50% faster CPU performance and up to twice the GPU performance compared with the previous model. These are Apple’s stated performance figures, not independently verified benchmark results.
Those improvements should help with navigation, interface responsiveness, animations, and graphics-intensive tasks, including supported games from Apple Arcade. The faster processor also provides additional hardware capability for the device’s expanded Apple Intelligence features.
The A19 chip includes a dedicated AV1 decoder, which Apple says enables more efficient, high-quality video streaming while using less bandwidth. AV1 decoding is particularly relevant as more streaming services deliver video using the codec.
Apple has not positioned the new model as a complete redesign. Instead, the fourth-generation device builds on the existing Apple TV experience with a faster processor, new AI capabilities, and hardware changes that expand how users interact with it.
Siri Remote gains Find My support
The Siri Remote retains its familiar design but adds support for Apple’s Find My network, including Precision Finding, along with an option to play a sound to help locate it.
Losing a small remote between sofa cushions is a familiar living-room problem, and the new features should make it easier to track down when it goes missing. Find My support extends to the Siri Remote (second generation and later), while playing a sound to locate the remote is exclusive to the newest Siri Remote.
Precision Finding is more limited. It works with the fourth-generation Siri Remote paired with a compatible iPhone running the latest iOS software. Availability varies by region, so users should check Apple’s compatibility requirements before relying on the feature.
The updated Siri Remote is compatible with Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K models, and Apple will sell it separately.
Four HomePod speakers create a surround sound setup
The new Apple TV 4K expands Apple’s home theater options by supporting a four-speaker surround sound configuration for the first time. Users can pair it with four HomePod mini 2 speakers or use a combination of HomePod (second generation) speakers and HomePod mini 2 units.

Apple says the speakers can recognize their positions in a room and automatically calibrate audio timing and levels for the space. In mixed configurations, the front and rear speaker pairs must match. For example, users can place a pair of HomePod (second generation) speakers at the front and a pair of HomePod mini 2 speakers at the rear.
The setup requires the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K running the latest operating system software, along with four compatible HomePod speakers. The speakers are sold separately, so building the complete system will cost considerably more than purchasing the streaming box alone.
A smarter hub for Apple Home
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K continues to serve as a home hub, allowing users to control compatible smart home accessories, run automations, manage scenes, and use features such as guest access.

It also brings Apple Intelligence into the Home app’s security-camera experience. With compatible cameras and an eligible iCloud+ plan, users can receive AI-generated descriptions of recorded camera activity and summarized notifications. Compatible doorbell notifications can appear on the television, allowing users to see who is at the door, speak with them, and control supported accessories without leaving what they are watching.
Built-in Wi-Fi and Thread connectivity help the device connect to and control compatible smart home accessories. Siri AI can also control accessories and activate scenes using voice commands.
Some smart home features require compatible accessories, additional Apple devices, or an eligible iCloud+ subscription. Camera-description and video-summary capabilities also have plan-dependent limitations. Users should check Apple’s requirements for the specific features they intend to use.
More entertainment and personalized screen savers
Beyond streaming, Apple TV 4K supports Apple Arcade games, Apple Fitness+ workouts, and FaceTime calls through Continuity Camera. Users can also access their iCloud photos on the television.
Apple is adding more customization for iCloud Photos, including personalized Memories and Slideshows or Portraits screen savers without having to display the entire photo library. A new screen saver shuffle feature can automatically rotate between categories.
The device remains part of Apple’s wider entertainment ecosystem, with the Apple TV app offering Apple Originals and access to supported live sports and other content. Access to individual services, subscriptions, and content varies.
Privacy and environmental considerations
Apple says the A19 chip and new Apple TV 4K include Secure Exclaves, isolated environments designed to process microphone data separately from the rest of the system. Siri AI requests can use on-device processing or Apple’s Private Cloud Compute infrastructure.
According to Apple, data processed through Private Cloud Compute is not stored or made accessible to Apple, while HomeKit Secure Video footage remains end-to-end encrypted.
The company also highlights recycled materials in the device. Apple says its printed circuit boards use 100% recycled gold plating and tin solder, its magnets use 100% recycled rare earth elements, and its thermal module contains 80% recycled aluminum. The Siri Remote enclosure uses 100% recycled aluminum.
Apple TV 4K price and availability
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K is priced at $299 and can be preordered starting today, October 13, through Apple’s online store and Apple Store app. Retail availability begins Friday, November 13, 2026. Apple also lists a payment option of $49.83 per month for six months.
The new model’s $299 starting price is worth noting in the context of Apple’s recent pricing changes. The previous Apple TV 4K launched at $129 before Apple raised its price by $70 to $199 in June 2026. The new generation therefore costs $100 more than that increased price and $170 more than the previous model’s original launch price.
That makes the new Apple TV 4K a more expensive proposition than before, even as it adds a faster chip, a built-in microphone array, Siri AI, and expanded home theater features. Buyers who already own compatible HomePod speakers and use Apple’s smart home platform may get more value from the additions than those who simply want an inexpensive device for streaming video.
With the A19 chip and Siri AI at the center of the update, Apple is positioning its latest streaming box as a more capable entertainment and smart home hub rather than just another way to watch television.
