As we usher in the new year, Xiaomi has launched an exciting contender in the mid-range smartphone arena – the Redmi Turbo 4. This device marks a notable milestone as the first to be equipped with the newly unveiled MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chipset, which Xiaomi has tailored and rebranded as the Dimensity 8400-Ultra.

The Redmi Turbo 4 stands out with its robust power management, matching the battery capacity of its sibling, the Redmi K80, with a hefty 6,550 mAh silicon carbon cell. This is complemented by 90W fast wired charging, ensuring you’re back to full power in no time.

The phone sports a 6.77-inch LTPS OLED screen, boasting a resolution of 1220p and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. This display isn’t just about looks; it’s engineered for performance with a peak brightness of 3,200 nits, ideal for visibility under direct sunlight. The screen is safeguarded by Gorilla Glass 7i, providing durability against the wear and tear of daily use.

Photography enthusiasts will find much to appreciate in the dual-camera setup at the back. The primary camera is a 50MP sensor using the Sony LYT-600, complete with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) for clear, shake-free images. Alongside, there’s an 8MP ultrawide lens, expanding your field of view. For selfies, there’s a 20MP front-facing camera tucked into a punch-hole cutout, ensuring high-quality self-portraits.

The phones are displayed with their backs facing forward, highlighting the dual-camera setup and sleek design. The fourth phone on the right shows the front display, which features a punch-hole camera at the top center of the screen. The background is a gradient of purple and blue, making the phones stand out.

The Redmi Turbo 4 doesn’t skimp on aesthetics or toughness. It features a glass back with a chic dual-tone finish available in black, white, and sea blue. It’s also built to withstand the elements, with an IP66/68/69 rating for dust and water resistance, making it a reliable companion for the adventurous user. Additionally, an infrared port adds a dash of old-school functionality for controlling various devices.

Running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2, which is based on Android 15, the device promises a fluid and versatile software experience. This OS is known for its performance optimizations and user interface enhancements, tailored to make the most out of the hardware.

Pricing and availability

The Redmi Turbo 4 comes in two configurations: the 12GB RAM with 256GB storage at CNY1,999 (~ $274), and a higher 16GB RAM with 512GB storage at CNY2,499 (~ $343). Both models are now available for purchase in China through Xiaomi’s official sales channels.

For those outside China, there’s good news. The Redmi Turbo 4 is set to hit international markets and rebranded as the Poco X7 Pro. This global variant is slated for a reveal on January 9, broadening the reach of this impressive piece of tech.
