OnePlus has just rolled out the red carpet for the OnePlus Ace 5 and OnePlus Ace 5 Pro, the latest entries in their Ace series, stepping in as the successors to the Ace 3 and Ace 3 Pro. In a nod to cultural sensitivities, OnePlus has skipped the number ‘4’ in this naming sequence, a practice observed due to tetraphobia prevalent in China. Here’s what these new smartphones bring to the table.

Leading with the Ace 5 Pro, OnePlus has equipped it with the cutting-edge Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, promising top-tier performance. It’s complemented by up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, running on Android 15 with ColorOS 15.

The Ace 5 Pro doesn’t skimp on cooling solutions either, featuring a “double ice core VC” system for enhanced heat dissipation, ensuring that performance doesn’t throttle during intense gaming sessions. It includes a unique Fengchi Gaming Core, designed to deliver a native 120 FPS gaming experience at 1080p, which OnePlus has fine-tuned with the developers of “Genshin Impact” for an optimized gameplay experience.

On the display front, the Ace 5 Pro sports a 6.78-inch 8T LTPO AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2780×1264 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate, protected by Crystal Shield Glass. This screen can blast up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness and supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, making it perfect for vibrant visuals in all lighting conditions. It’s sensitive enough to function when your hands are wet or gloved, adding to its practical allure.

The camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor (Sony IMX906 with OIS), an 8MP ultra-wide lens with a 112-degree field of view, and a 2MP macro camera, all housed in a stylish circular module. The AI camera features are particularly noteworthy, allowing users to edit out unwanted people from photos and reduce glare, enhancing everyday photography.

Battery life is handled by a 6,100 mAh silicon carbon battery, supported by 100W fast charging, with a bypass charging option for gamers to keep the battery cool during long sessions. Additional features include an X-axis linear motor for better haptic feedback, stereo speakers, NFC, an IR blaster, and an IP65 rating for dust and splash resistance. Connectivity is bolstered by Wi-Fi 7 and a special gaming Wi-Fi chip, G1.

The OnePlus Ace 5 Pro is available in three colors: purple, black, and a special white ceramic edition, with prices starting at CNY3,399 (~ $466).

The OnePlus Ace 5 shares many traits with its Pro sibling but dials back on some specs to hit a more accessible price point. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, slightly less powerful than the Elite version but still formidable. It boasts a 6,415 mAh battery with 80W fast charging capabilities, offering robust endurance.

The display and camera setup are largely identical to the Pro model, maintaining the high standards set by OnePlus. However, the Ace 5 omits the gaming-specific Wi-Fi chip and has a different cooling system, though it still supports 120 FPS gaming.

Color options for the Ace 5 include titanium, black, and a unique celadon with a ceramic finish. It’s priced starting at CNY2,299 (~ $315), making it a compelling choice for those looking for performance without breaking the bank.

Both models are currently available for purchase in China through Oppo’s online store, with the Ace 5 Pro slated to hit the market starting December 31.
