The HEIC (High Efficiency Image Codec) or HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) format is a newer image format that was introduced by Apple in 2017 with the release of iOS 11. It is designed to provide higher-quality images with smaller file sizes, which is especially useful for storing large numbers of photos on your iPhone. However, some users may prefer to use the more widely-supported JPEG format instead, especially if they need to share their photos with others who may not have compatible devices or software. In this article, we’ll show you how to turn off HEIC on your iPhone so that your photos are saved in JPEG format instead.

Before we begin, it’s important to note that the HEIC format is only available on devices running iOS 11 or later. If you are using an older version of iOS, this option will not be available to you.

To turn off HEIC on your iPhone, follow these steps:

  • Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on the Camera option.
  • Under the Formats section, tap on the Most Compatible option.

By selecting the Most Compatible option, your iPhone will save photos in JPEG format instead of HEIC. If you prefer to use the HEIC format, you can simply select the High Efficiency option instead or read the in-depth guide HERE.

It’s worth noting that turning off HEIC will not affect the quality of your photos. The JPEG format is still a high-quality image format, and your photos will look just as good as they would in the HEIC format. The only difference is that the file sizes may be slightly larger, which may be an issue if you have limited storage space on your iPhone.

In conclusion, turning off HEIC on your iPhone is a simple process that can be done in just a few steps. Whether you prefer the JPEG format for its compatibility or simply want to save space on your device, this option is available to you. By following the steps outlined above, you can easily switch between the HEIC and JPEG formats to suit your needs.
