Amazon has renamed Kindle Unlimited to Kindle+, giving its digital reading subscription a new identity as the company expands its audiobook offerings. The change brings a familiar service under a shorter name, while keeping its extensive library of eBooks and other digital content available across Kindle devices and the Kindle app.

The rebranding was reflected in Amazon’s official Kindle+ information page on October 22, 2026. The subscription continues to offer access to millions of eBooks, alongside audiobooks, comics, manga, and magazines. For existing subscribers, the most notable development is the addition of thousands of audiobooks to the US catalog, rather than a complete overhaul of the service.

What changes with Kindle+?

Kindle Unlimited has been a staple of Amazon’s digital reading ecosystem since its introduction in 2014. Its new Kindle+ branding reflects a service that extends beyond conventional eBook reading to include more ways to consume books.

According to information shared through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing program, the rebranding also coincides with the expansion of audiobook availability, including audiobooks created through its Virtual Voice technology. Audiobooks are available to Kindle+ subscribers in the US, with additional marketplaces expected to follow.

The broader catalog includes millions of eBooks and thousands of audiobooks, as well as comics, manga, and magazines. Thousands of eBooks also offer companion audiobooks, allowing readers to switch between reading and listening to supported titles without paying an additional fee for the audio version.

Kindle+ pricing and device compatibility

In the US, Kindle+ costs $11.99 per month, plus applicable taxes. The subscription is separate from Amazon Prime, so customers do not need a Prime membership to sign up.

Subscribers can access the service on compatible Kindle e-readers and through the free Kindle app on iPhone, Android phones, tablets, computers, and the web. The catalog can be browsed through the Kindle Store, where eligible titles carry the Kindle+ label.

Members can borrow up to 20 eligible titles at a time and return them whenever they want, provided their subscription remains active. The catalog is subscription-based, meaning access to borrowed titles depends on continued membership rather than permanent ownership of each book.

What existing subscribers should know

The name change does not mean Kindle Unlimited is being replaced by an entirely different service. Kindle+ retains the core subscription model, including its digital library, borrowing limits, and supported devices.

The addition of audiobooks is particularly relevant for readers who want to alternate between reading and listening. However, availability can vary by marketplace and title, so customers should check the Kindle+ catalog for specific books and audio editions.

For Amazon, the rebrand gives its reading subscription a name that better accommodates a mix of written and spoken content. For subscribers, the practical question is whether the expanded audio catalog includes enough titles they want to read or listen to to justify the monthly fee.
