Amazon is refreshing its Kindle lineup with a new design across the family, thinner bodies, new colors, and upgraded models, with the redesigned Kindle starting at $149.99.

The new lineup includes the standard Kindle, a 32GB aluminum Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, Kindle Colorsoft, and Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. Amazon is also introducing refreshed Kindle Kids models.

The biggest change across the lineup is the move to a flush-front design. Amazon has removed the visible step between the display and bezel, giving the new Kindles a flatter front while making the devices thinner. The power button has also moved to the upper-right corner of the device.

Amazon is expanding the color choices too, with options including Ube, Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, and Fig, depending on the model.

The new Kindle starts at $149.99

The redesigned entry-level Kindle retains a 6-inch display and 16GB of storage, but Amazon says it is now thinner, lighter, and faster than the previous model.

Amazon claims the new Kindle can display books about 30% faster than the previous generation and offers up to six weeks of battery life. The device weighs 140 grams and is available in Ube and Graphite.

Amazon’s US listing currently prices the new 16GB Kindle at $149.99. The listing describes it as the newest Kindle model with a thinner, lighter and faster design and a 6-inch display.

There is also a new 32GB Kindle with an aluminum rear panel. It is the first Kindle to offer 32GB of storage in the standard Kindle line and comes in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green aluminum finishes. Amazon rates its battery life at up to six weeks.

Kindle Paperwhite gets the same flat-front design

The Kindle Paperwhite is also getting the redesigned body while retaining features that have made it the more premium choice for traditional black-and-white reading.

It continues to offer an IPX8 water-resistant design and up to 12 weeks of battery life. Amazon says the new Paperwhite uses an oxide thin-film transistor display and is designed to deliver high contrast and a more responsive reading experience.

The Paperwhite Signature Edition adds 32GB of storage, an aluminum rear panel, an auto-adjusting front light and wireless charging. It also supports the new Kindle Click and other compatible accessories.

Kindle Colorsoft gets a major redesign

The Kindle Colorsoft is getting the same flush-front treatment, but its biggest selling point remains its 7-inch color display.

Amazon’s updated Colorsoft lineup includes a 16GB standard model and a 32GB Signature Edition. The color display is designed for content such as book covers, illustrations, comics and other reading material that benefits from color. Amazon also supports five highlight colors on Colorsoft.

The new Colorsoft uses Amazon’s Colorsoft display technology, including an oxide backplane and a light guide with nitride LEDs. Amazon says the technology is designed to improve color and brightness while maintaining detail and contrast.

The current US Amazon listing shows the redesigned Kindle Colorsoft at $289.99.

Amazon is adding new Kindle accessories

Amazon is also expanding its Kindle accessories alongside the new hardware.

The Kindle Click is a Bluetooth remote that lets readers turn pages without touching the Kindle. Amazon says it works with the new devices as well as Kindle models released from 2024 onward.

Amazon is also offering a magnetic page-turn cover for compatible Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition models, along with a charging dock for the Signature Edition devices.

The company is also refreshing its Kindle Kids lineup, including a new Kindle Kids model with a 6-inch black-and-white display and a Kindle Colorsoft Kids model with a 7-inch color display. Both include a kid-friendly cover and a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription.

The redesigned Kindle family gives Amazon a much more consistent hardware lineup. Every model now shares the flat-front design, while the higher-end models add features such as aluminum construction, larger storage, wireless charging and, in the case of Colorsoft, a color display.

For readers who simply want a lightweight e-reader, the $149.99 Kindle is now the entry point. Those looking for waterproofing and longer battery life can move up to the Paperwhite, while Colorsoft is the option for readers who want color without moving away from an E Ink-style reading experience.
