Apple has officially opened the preorder floodgates for its latest wave of hardware, with the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, AirPods 5, Mac mini, and Mac Studio all heading into customers’ shopping carts. There’s just one rather important exception: iPhone Duo.

iPhone Duo: “See you in the middle of October.”

Apple’s latest update confirms that preorders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max begin Saturday, September 12, at 5 am PT. The new Apple Watch models and AirPods 5 are already available to preorder, while the Mac mini and Mac Studio have also joined the preorder party.

For the iPhone 18 Pro models, Apple says customers can expect the usual launch-day scramble, with the phones going on sale in stores and online starting September 18. Apple Watch Series 12, Apple Watch Ultra 4, and AirPods 5 will also arrive on September 18, while the new Mac desktops hit stores on September 22.

So, naturally, you might assume Apple’s first foldable iPhone would be somewhere in that lineup.

Nope.

The iPhone Duo has apparently decided that September is a little too mainstream.

iPhone Duo has its own schedule

Apple unveiled iPhone Duo earlier this week as its first foldable iPhone, complete with a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer display, A20 Pro chip, dual-battery design, and a starting price of $1,999 in the U.S.

But while the rest of Apple’s new hardware is moving toward customers this month, iPhone Duo is taking the scenic route.

Apple says iPhone Duo preorders won’t begin until Friday, October 16, at 5 am PT. The phone will then arrive in stores and begin shipping on Friday, October 23.

In other words, the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is already getting ready for launch day while iPhone Duo is essentially saying, “Catch you in October.”

And honestly, that makes the foldable feel even more like the odd one out in Apple’s 2026 iPhone lineup.

The delay isn’t entirely surprising. iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable iPhone, and it introduces a completely new hardware design with a precision hinge, two displays, a dual-battery architecture, and a different approach to iOS 27. Apple is positioning it as a major new category rather than simply another annual iPhone upgrade.

The wait could make the Duo even more interesting

When iPhone Duo finally arrives, it’ll be the most unconventional member of Apple’s new iPhone family.

The inner 7.6-inch display is designed for multitasking, gaming, and larger-format content, while the 5.4-inch outer display handles more traditional phone duties when the device is folded. Apple has also built several software features specifically around the folding design, including Split View multitasking and new camera experiences that take advantage of the outer display.

The phone will launch with iOS 27.1 and will be available in Star White and Night Sky. Apple says preorders will open across more than 70 countries and regions, including the U.S., on October 16, with availability beginning October 23.

So yes, practically everything else from Apple’s September hardware blitz is already moving through the preorder pipeline.
