When WiiM first teased its Amp Ultra at the High End Munich show in mid‑May, audio enthusiasts crowded the Bavarian halls for a firsthand listen. In a compact footprint—just 200 × 75 × 200 mm—the Amp Ultra promised to marry serious amplification muscle with modern streaming smarts. Today, it’s finally shipping: a one‑box solution that turns any pair of passive speakers into a high‑resolution, multi‑room system, and it’s ready for prime time.

At first glance, the Amp Ultra’s aluminum chassis feels impossibly solid yet surprisingly light. The choice of aluminum isn’t merely aesthetic: it doubles as a giant heat sink for the dual TI TPA3255 Class D amplifier chips inside. On the front, a 3.5‑inch glass‑covered touchscreen mirrors the user‑friendly interface born in WiiM’s Ultra streamer, while a multifunctional dial to its right lets you fine‑tune volume or scroll through menus without breaking a sweat.

Despite its small size, the Amp Ultra packs a punch: 100 watts per channel into 8Ω, and an eye‑watering 200 watts into 4Ω. At its heart sits a 32‑bit/384kHz ESS ES9039Q2M Sabre DAC, six TI OPA1612 op‑amps for analog finesse, and, of course, the dual TI TPA3255 drivers for Class D efficiency. But the real magic is WiiM’s post‑filter feedback (PFFB) technology: a dynamic correction system that tames speaker‑load dependency for stability down to 2Ω, delivering rock‑steady output and ultra‑low distortion.

The 3.5‑inch touchscreen isn’t a gimmick. Behind its Corning glass cover, you’ll find playback controls, input switching, a 10‑band graphic and parametric EQ, custom wallpapers, VU meters, “Smart Presets” for one‑touch access to favorite content, and a built‑in room correction feature. Dubbed “RoomFit,” this smart EQ sweeps a test tone through your speakers, analyzes the room’s acoustics, and tailors the tonal balance for your specific space—whether you’re rocking bookshelf monitors or a floor‑standing pair.

WiiM has covered all the bases: HDMI ARC for TV sound duties (yes, you can cobble together a 2.1 home theater with your existing speakers and a powered sub), optical, USB‑B, stereo RCA inputs, and a dedicated sub‑out. On the wireless side, you get Wi‑Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 (SBC/AAC), with dual antennas for stable streaming. For multi‑room setups, the Amp Ultra plays nicely with Google Cast, Alexa Cast, DLNA, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect—all orchestrated through the free WiiM Home smartphone app.

Unlike some gear that peaks at launch, WiiM plans regular firmware drops to bring new features and polish existing ones. Control options extend beyond the app and touchscreen: the included WiiM Voice Remote 2 (think Apple TV remote in matte black) handles playback, source switching, and voice commands via Alexa or Google Assistant. Looking for pure hands‑free? Just bark commands through your preferred assistant or use Alexa Cast to cue up tracks while you’re busy elsewhere.

Whether you’re an apartment‑dweller craving space savings or a budding audiophile building a modular system, the Amp Ultra slots neatly into any décor without demanding a separate pre‑amp, streamer, or AV receiver. And at $529 in the US—available now on Amazon (without Voice Remote 2 for $329) with immediate shipping to the USA and Canada—WiiM is positioning it as a “no‑compromise” entry into high‑fidelity streaming amplification.

The WiiM Amp Ultra isn’t just another streamer‑amp hybrid; it’s a lesson in engineering compactness without compromise. From its heat‑efficient chassis and PFFB‑tuned output to the intuitiveness of its touchscreen and app, it reflects a company listening closely to its community. If you’ve been hunting for a classy, powerful, and versatile one‑box audio hub, your search might just be over.
