Acer used IFA 2026 to introduce the Vero 16, a 16-inch AI PC that makes an unusually direct argument: a modern laptop should be easier to keep, fix, and upgrade, not simply replaced when something goes wrong. It is a refreshingly practical idea in a market where thin designs and sealed components have often taken priority over long-term ownership.
The Vero line has always been Acer’s sustainability-focused brand, but the new Vero 16 feels more ambitious than a laptop made with a little recycled plastic and a green marketing message. Acer is positioning this as its fourth-generation Vero consumer laptop, with repairability built into the product’s physical design alongside current-generation Intel silicon, a large OLED display, and Copilot+ PC features.
The main story is not the processor or the AI badge, although both matter. It is the way Acer has approached the laptop’s construction. The Vero 16 includes an easy-open bottom access latch, a visual repair and upgrade guide engraved onto the device, a user-replaceable battery and SSD, detachable external hinges, and removable covers around the side I/O ports. Those details may sound small, but they address some of the most frustrating parts of maintaining a modern notebook: getting inside it without damaging the chassis, replacing parts that wear out, and making repairs without turning a simple issue into an expensive service-center visit.
That approach also helps make the Vero 16 feel like a more credible response to the right-to-repair conversation. Many laptops can technically be opened or serviced, but that does not always make them friendly to real-world repairs. Screws may be hidden, parts may be difficult to source, batteries may be heavily glued in place, and a damaged hinge can mean a much larger repair than it should. Acer says the Vero 16 is designed to support processor upgrades for at least two generations, a notable claim in an industry where upgrade paths have become increasingly limited.

Of course, Acer will need to prove how this plays out beyond a product announcement. Repairability depends on more than access panels. It also comes down to the cost and availability of replacement parts, repair documentation, firmware support, and whether upgrades can be performed without creating compatibility problems. Still, the physical choices here are a meaningful step, especially for buyers who prefer to use a laptop for several years rather than treat it as a short-cycle purchase.
The sustainability angle runs through the rest of the machine as well. Acer says the Vero 16’s top cover and palm rest use a blend of 50% post-industrial recycled aluminum and 50% low-carbon aluminum, with the latter produced using hydropower. The bottom cover is made with 60% post-consumer recycled plastic, while the display bezels use 30% post-consumer recycled plastic. The side I/O covers use 75% post-industrial recycled aluminum.
There is also an understated design decision that matters more than it first appears: Acer has used a solvent-free powder coating instead of conventional paint. The company says this reduces volatile organic compound emissions while improving resistance to wear. Paired with MIL-STD-810H certification, it suggests the Vero 16 is being designed not only to look environmentally conscious on day one, but also to survive regular use long enough for its repairability features to have real value.
A laptop made from recycled materials is useful. A laptop that stays functional for longer is arguably more important. Extending a device’s usable life can reduce the need to manufacture and ship a replacement machine, which is why the Vero 16’s service-friendly design is more compelling than recycled-material percentages alone.
Acer has not sacrificed the usual premium-laptop checklist in the process. The Vero 16 will use Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors, topping out at the Core Ultra X9 388H, with up to 180 platform TOPS for local AI workloads. Acer is branding it as a Copilot+ PC, meaning it supports Windows AI features such as Click to Do, Cocreator, Live Captions with translation, and Windows Studio Effects.
As with most Copilot+ PCs, the real appeal of these capabilities will depend on how useful they are in everyday work rather than how prominently the AI label appears on a spec sheet. Live captions and video-call enhancements are easy to understand, while creative tools and task shortcuts may be more situational. Acer is adding its own software layer, too, including PurifiedView for camera effects, PurifiedVoice for AI noise reduction, and AcerSense for performance, battery, storage, and collaboration settings.
For people working from home, editing content, or moving between meetings and travel, the rest of the hardware looks well-rounded. The Vero 16 can be configured with up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory, up to a 512GB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, a 71Wh battery, and a 5-megapixel IR webcam with a physical privacy shutter. It also carries two Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI 2.1, two USB-A ports, an SD card reader, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.6, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
That port selection deserves a quick mention because it is increasingly rare to see a thin laptop that does not force buyers into a life of dongles. The built-in SD card reader will be useful for photographers, video creators, and anyone transferring files from a camera, while HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 should make the Vero 16 a capable desk setup machine. One of the USB-A ports also supports power-off charging, allowing accessories to be charged even when the laptop itself is shut down.
The display is another reason the Vero 16 could appeal beyond environmentally minded shoppers. Acer plans configurations with a 16-inch, 2,880 x 1,800 OLED panel featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and up to 500 nits in True Black HDR mode. There will also be lower-resolution OLED options, including touch and non-touch variants.
In plain terms, that should give the laptop plenty of screen space for multitasking and sharp, high-contrast visuals for streaming, photo work, and creative projects. OLED can make a noticeable difference for media consumption thanks to its deep blacks and punchy contrast, while the taller 16:10 format is more comfortable for documents, timelines, spreadsheets, and web browsing than older 16:9 displays.
At 3.44 pounds, the Vero 16 is not trying to be the lightest 16-inch laptop on the market, but it is still a manageable weight for a larger-screen machine. Its listed thickness ranges from 0.43 to 0.62 inches, depending on the part of the chassis, suggesting Acer has managed to retain a relatively slim profile while making room for the ports, battery, and serviceable elements that many ultra-thin laptops leave behind.
There is one important caveat for U.S. shoppers: Acer has only confirmed availability in EMEA, beginning in the first quarter of 2027. The company has not announced U.S. pricing, configurations, or a North American release date, so it remains unclear whether the Vero 16 will reach the United States in the same form.
Still, Acer’s IFA announcement is worth paying attention to even before the retail details arrive. The Vero 16 does not present repairability as a compromise for people willing to accept slower hardware or a less polished design. Instead, it pairs a service-conscious build with an OLED display, current AI-focused Intel processors, modern wireless connectivity, and the ports people still need.
That is the more interesting message behind this laptop. For years, consumers have been asked to choose between sleek hardware and hardware that can realistically stay in service. Acer’s Vero 16 suggests that the two do not have to be opposites – and if the company follows through with affordable parts and meaningful support, it could be one of the more thoughtful laptop launches to come out of IFA 2026.
