The medical industry is increasingly relying on voice assistants like Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri, and Amazon‘s Alexa.

These voice assistants offer huge technical leverage that can be used by medical practitioners to provide better and more personalized medical services.

If you look at the recent trends, then you will find that millions of people have smart speakers like Google Home or Alexa in their homes.

These can be used to provide health-related assistance.

While at present, Amazon Alexa has stolen a march over other voice assistants in providing customized medical services to patients, the others are also quickly catching up.

It would be interesting to see which voice assistant would race ahead to capture greater market share in the near future.

How different voice assistants can impact the healthcare sector?

Here, we will provide essential points on how voice technology in healthcare is useful for both patients & doctors.

There are multiple voice assistants like Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant.

All of them have their individual USPs, and their continued innovation would help them get more people to adopt their technologies as a medical voice assistant.

We will compare all the voice assistants based on their impacts on the healthcare sector.

So, let’s get started:

Helping diabetic patients to manage their lifestyle and medicine

Voice assistants like Alexa are playing a pioneering role in helping diabetic patients to manage their lifestyles by assisting them in managing their daily activities.

Alexa is using hardware wise to scan the individual to figure out any potentially dangerous symptoms.

The voice assistant can simplify the day-to-day activities of type II diabetic patients to ensure that they perform the necessary physical activities regularly to help keep their sugar levels under control.

Reminding the elderly is to take their medications

If you have an elderly patient in your home, then one of the big challenges is to ensure that they take their medication promptly.

However, as people age, they sometimes forget things like taking the daily dose of their medications.

A medical voice assistant like Amazon Alexa or Siri can regularly inform the patient to take medication.

This regular reminder will go a long way in keeping your elderly family members healthy as their daily prescription drugs will keep their vitals at manageable levels.

Making interaction more streamlined and the hospital

The interactive nature of voice assistants like Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, and others ensure that patients do not feel alone.

These voice assistants come with several applications that allow people to change TV channels, the temperature level of the room or even call someone through voice commands.

This goes a long way in reducing the workload of the caregivers and helps them to focus their energies on their core jobs of taking care of patient health.

Helping manage blood pressure

Blood pressure, like blood sugar, is a silent killer that should be regularly monitored and kept within manageable levels.

Many voice assistants, including Google Assistant, Amazon’s Alexa, and Apple’s Siri used in wearable devices to continuously check the blood pressure level of patients.

In case there is a sudden spike in all the blood pressure levels then it can immediately alert the doctors and nurses so that they can take the necessary action.

Buying insurance through a voice assistant

Many voice assistants are programmed to let the user buy medical insurance through voice commands only.

This is a great feature as it allows people who are unable to use their hands-free to connect with their insurance service provider through voice command and seek a quote.

The voice assistant would also let the patients navigate through the various FAQs to find out about the insurance plan and various terms and conditions associated with it.

Learning more to live first-aid tutorials

Some applications are developed that can be activated by the voice assistant to get instant access to various first-aid tutorials.

The patient can receive self-care instruction from a reliable source.

This can come in handy if you are in a remote location and need an immediate answer on how to give somebody first aid.

Finding more about different hospitals and their facilities

If you are suffering from any ailment and need specialized care, then you can ask the voice assistant for information.

A voice assistant like Alexa can give you a complete list of all the medical facilities that are available near you and how to reach there in the shortest possible time.

Taking notes

The medical voice assistant can be programmed to take medical notes that would help the doctors to save their time (which would have otherwise been wasted in writing medical reports).

Conclusion

The above examples show how voice assistants are revolutionizing the health sector.

While at present voice assistants like Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Siri are making an outstanding effort, it is hard to predict which one of these would ultimately triumph.

We believe that multiple voice assistants would have their niche markets where they would through various products help the patient to receive highly specialized services.

We are at the cusp of witnessing a revolution in the medical sector, wherein technologies like voice assistants, AI, and machine learning can completely change the face of how we receive medical services in the foreseeable future.
