Walmart+ Student is Walmart’s half-price version of its paid membership for eligible college and graduate students in the United States. It costs $6.47 per month or $49 per year, includes a 30-day trial for qualified first-time members, and delivers the same core benefits as a standard Walmart+ plan.

A membership built around convenience

At its core, Walmart+ is Walmart’s answer to the modern “subscription for everyday errands” model: pay one recurring fee, then reduce the shipping, delivery, and shopping friction that can add up across a month. The student version does not create a separate, stripped-down tier. Instead, it gives qualifying students the full membership at 50% off.

That matters because the savings are not limited to online shipping. A student member can use Walmart+ for grocery delivery, prescriptions, fuel discounts, streaming, and in-store shopping features, depending on local availability and the products ordered. For someone balancing classes, work, commuting, and a tight budget, the value is mostly about turning small repeat costs – delivery fees, shipping charges, and fuel prices – into a more predictable annual expense.

What students get

Walmart+ Student members receive the same advertised benefits available to regular members. The most practical ones are free next-day or two-day shipping on eligible Walmart.com items with no order minimum, plus free grocery delivery on qualifying orders of at least $35. Walmart notes that exclusions and location-based restrictions can apply, particularly for Marketplace products, freight items, and certain delivery services.

The package also includes a streaming option: members can choose between Paramount+ and Peacock. Walmart frames the inclusion as up to $109 in annual streaming value, although the actual value naturally depends on whether a student would otherwise subscribe separately.

Other perks include 10 cents off per gallon at participating Walmart, Exxon, Mobil, and Murphy stations, along with member pricing at Sam’s Club fuel stations. Walmart also lists free pharmacy delivery, 25 free photo prints per month, select Burger King offers, and auto-related benefits such as free flat tire repair and road-hazard warranty.

Who qualifies

The offer is intended for students 18 and older who are current or incoming undergraduate or advanced-degree students at a Title IV-accredited U.S. college or university. Applicants must live in the United States, including its territories and possessions, and need to provide enrollment verification.

Verification is handled through SheerID, a third-party verification provider commonly used for student and professional discounts. In practice, a student visits Walmart’s dedicated Student page, completes the eligibility check, selects either the monthly or annual discounted plan, and then begins the membership.

Walmart says the discount continues as long as the member remains eligible. Existing Walmart+ subscribers can switch to the student plan if they qualify, while members on Walmart+ Assist – Walmart’s discounted option for qualifying government-assistance recipients – cannot stack or transfer that benefit into the student offer.

Is the annual plan better?

For most students who expect to use Walmart+ for more than a few months, the annual plan is the cleaner deal. At $49 per year, it effectively works out to about $4.08 a month, versus $6.47 paid month-to-month – a difference of roughly $28.64 across a full year.

Still, the monthly plan has a place. It makes sense for a student who only needs delivery access during a semester, is living off campus temporarily, or wants to test whether nearby grocery delivery coverage and product selection make the service worthwhile. The free 30-day trial gives eligible new members a low-risk way to find out before the paid plan begins.

Where the value shows up

The membership works best for students who already make frequent Walmart purchases, live in an area with reliable delivery, or regularly buy heavier everyday basics: groceries, toiletries, dorm supplies, printer paper, storage items, and seasonal essentials. In that situation, avoiding even a handful of delivery or shipping fees can make the $49 annual charge easier to justify.

The streaming option adds appeal, but it should not be the main reason to subscribe unless that is a service a student already planned to pay for. The more meaningful calculation is practical: how often would you use grocery delivery, how often would you otherwise pay shipping or express-delivery fees, and do you drive enough for the fuel discount to matter?

Walmart+ Student is therefore less like a traditional student discount on a single purchase and more like a discounted utility subscription for campus life. If Walmart is already part of a student’s routine, it can be a useful way to make recurring essentials cheaper and easier to manage. If it is not, the 30-day trial is the best test of whether the convenience has real value rather than just another monthly charge.
