Samsung’s relentless drive to bring cutting-edge features to its flagship devices just struck again. With the release of the fourth One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy S24 series, owners of the Galaxy S24 Ultra are now treated to a coveted camera feature previously reserved for the Galaxy S25 series. Here’s what the new Log video recording mode means for users and why it might be exclusive to the Ultra.

Samsung has long been known for its iterative improvements through software updates, and the latest One UI 7 beta is no exception. While the update comes with a host of tweaks and bug fixes, one standout addition has caught the attention of tech enthusiasts worldwide: the ability to record videos in the log format. Traditionally a feature of the Galaxy S25 series, Log video recording has now made its way to the Galaxy S24 Ultra—a move that highlights Samsung’s commitment to keeping its current generation devices competitive.

According to recent reports from reputable sources, the update brings the Galaxy S25’s high-end camera functionality down to the Galaxy S24 Ultra, ensuring that users can capture videos with maximum sensor information for a broader dynamic range and more flexibility in post-production.

What exactly is a Log video?

For those unfamiliar, shooting in log format isn’t about “logging” your video files—it’s about capturing every bit of detail your camera sensor can offer. Here’s why it matters:

  • Wider dynamic range: Log videos capture more nuanced details in both shadows and highlights. This means that during editing, there’s far greater flexibility to adjust exposure, contrast, and color without losing detail.
  • Flat, desaturated look: Out of the camera, log footage appears flat and muted. This “desaturated” look is by design; it’s a blank canvas meant to be color-graded later in editing software.
  • Post-production benefits: For videographers and content creators, shooting in a log is like taking photos in RAW format. It preserves critical information that can later be transformed to achieve a desired visual style. Even if you’re not a professional editor, Samsung has made it simple by offering a quick color correction option within the Gallery app.

This feature has been a game changer for those looking to extract every bit of quality from their smartphone recordings, and its inclusion in the Galaxy S24 Ultra is a nod to the growing demand for professional-grade mobile video capabilities.

How to enable Log video on your Galaxy S24 Ultra

Getting started is straightforward. Here’s a quick rundown for those eager to experiment with this feature:

  • Open the Camera app.
  • Tap on the settings icon and head to the Advanced video options menu.
  • Here you can choose to enable log support for both standard video mode and Pro video mode.
  • Once enabled, a dedicated LOG button will appear in the viewfinder. Toggle this button to switch between standard and log video recording modes.

Why only the Ultra model?

Interestingly, while all three models in the Galaxy S25 lineup support log video recording, only the Ultra variant of the Galaxy S24 series has received this feature. The reason isn’t entirely clear, but industry insiders speculate it could be due to hardware differences. In many regions, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ are powered by Exynos chips, which might not yet support the advanced processing required for log video mode. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, often equipped with higher-end components, appears to be the lucky beneficiary of this feature transfer.

For those passionate about video production, the introduction of log video recording on the Galaxy S24 Ultra is more than just a software update—it’s a creative enabler. By capturing video with a flat profile, users can perform detailed color grading and achieve a cinematic look that was once the sole domain of professional equipment. Moreover, the quick color correction tool in the Gallery app offers a safety net for casual users who might not want to dive deep into post-production software.

The feature essentially bridges the gap between everyday recording and professional-grade videography, making it an exciting development for creators at all levels.
