If you’re a Samsung user in the US who’s prone to the occasional drop or spill, there’s good news on the horizon. Samsung has just upgraded its Samsung Care Plus with Theft and Loss program, making a significant change that’s sure to lighten the load on your wallet.

As of today, January 15, 2025, Samsung has announced that it will no longer charge the $29 fee for screen replacements on devices covered under the Theft and Loss tier of Samsung Care Plus. That’s right – if you crack your screen or break your back glass, repairs are now on the house, at no extra cost to you.

Samsung Care Plus updated policy

This update follows on the heels of another significant enhancement to the Care Plus plan in March 2024, when Samsung introduced unlimited battery replacements for eligible devices. This series of updates underscores Samsung’s commitment to providing comprehensive protection for its devices, ensuring users aren’t left out of pocket due to accidental damage.

However, let’s clear up one thing: Samsung Care Plus with Theft and Loss isn’t free. You’ll still need to subscribe to the plan, which varies in cost based on the value of your device. Prices range from $8 to $18 per month, categorizing devices into different tiers, with higher-end models like the Galaxy S24 series likely falling into the more expensive brackets.

The beauty of this new perk is that it’s automatically included for all current subscribers of the Theft and Loss tier. There’s no need to opt in or take any additional steps; your coverage just got better overnight. This change isn’t just about saving money; it’s about peace of mind. With the escalating costs of smartphone repairs, especially for premium devices, this unlimited free repair policy could be a game-changer for many users.

According to Android Police, this upgrade applies specifically to the front screen and back glass for Galaxy S phones, but it’s worth noting that foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series are not included in this free repair offer. This could be due to the higher complexity and cost associated with repairing foldable screens.

For those considering signing up or upgrading their current plan to include Theft and Loss coverage, now might be the perfect time. The absence of a service fee for screen repairs, alongside existing benefits like theft and loss coverage, unlimited repairs for accidental damage, and same-day replacements in some areas, makes the Care Plus plan a robust safety net for your Samsung device.

Moreover, as highlighted by Consumer Reports, the decision to opt for Samsung Care Plus largely depends on how often you experience accidents with your devices. If you’re someone with a history of mishaps, or if you own one of Samsung’s more delicate foldable phones, this plan could save you hundreds over the life of your device.

In a world where technology is indispensable and increasingly expensive, Samsung’s strategy with Care Plus is a clear attempt to retain customer loyalty through enhanced after-sale services. By removing the cost barrier for one of the most common smartphone damages, Samsung improves customer satisfaction and sets a high bar for device protection plans in the competitive tech market.

So, breathe easy if you’ve got Samsung Care Plus with Theft and Loss; your next screen or back glass repair won’t cost you anything extra. And for those on the fence, this might be the nudge you need to invest in some peace of mind for your Samsung gadgets.
