For mobile filmmakers and content creators, the smartphone has become an indispensable tool for capturing high-quality video on the go. However, the limitations of working with a phone’s compact form factor can make it challenging to achieve professional-grade results. Enter RØDE, the acclaimed audio company that has now ventured into the realm of mobile videography with the launch of two innovative iPhone accessories: the Phone Cage and the Magnetic Mount.

Unveiled during the prestigious NAB 2024 event, these new offerings from RØDE are designed to transform the humble iPhone into a formidable filmmaking device, empowering creators to elevate their smartphone videography to new heights.

The Phone Cage

At the heart of RØDE’s new lineup is the Phone Cage, a robust and ergonomic mounting system that encases the iPhone while providing a plethora of customization options. Crafted from lightweight yet durable aluminum, the Phone Cage features a central MagSafe-compatible mounting disk that securely holds the iPhone in place.

But the Phone Cage is more than just a grip; it’s a blank canvas for mobile filmmakers to create their ideal rig. With a remarkable five cold shoe slots and an impressive 33 mounting threads strategically placed around the cage, users can attach an array of accessories, from external batteries and lights to microphones and additional grips, ensuring that their setup is tailored to their specific needs.

The Magnetic Mount

For those seeking a more minimalistic approach, RØDE has introduced the Magnetic Mount, a compact and versatile solution that leverages the iPhone’s MagSafe capabilities. This innovative system consists of a central mounting puck and three removable arms, offering users the flexibility to configure their setup based on the shot requirements.

Two of the arms – a short and a long cold shoe arm – are designed for filming in both landscape and portrait orientations, while the third arm features a quarter-inch thread, allowing for seamless mounting on tripods or other stable platforms.

The true beauty of the Magnetic Mount lies in its modularity. Creators can attach only the accessories they need for a particular shot, such as a microphone or a light, without the burden of unnecessary weight or bulk. This streamlined approach ensures that capturing those spontaneous moments is a breeze, without sacrificing quality or functionality.

Price and availability

RØDE’s new Phone Cage and Magnetic Mount are now available for preorders at $120 and $90 respectively, with shipping set for April 24, 2024. These pricing points make these innovative accessories accessible to a wide range of mobile content creators.

The left sidebar shows navigation options including Computer, New Task, Tasks, Files, Connectors, Skills, and Gallery. The main panel displays a task titled "Syncing Google Docs and Notion Editor" in progress. Visible steps include building the updated app, running a terminal command (cd unified-editor && npm run build), restarting the production server with NODE_ENV=production node dist/index.js, and a final deployment step labeled "Deploying with new document open by default." At the bottom, a completion message reads "Done — the app now opens straight into the new document editor with the title field and block editor ready to go," accompanied by a preview thumbnail of the generated app called "Perplexity Docs." Two additional browser tabs labeled "Google Docs" and "Media | Articles | Notion" are open at the top of the window.
