Meta Connect 2026 was a pretty clear statement of where Meta thinks personal computing is heading: away from the phone and toward devices you can simply wear, talk to, and carry around all day.

The company’s September 24 event was packed with announcements across AI, smart glasses, virtual reality, gaming, and wearable computing. The biggest theme running through all of them was Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, which is expanding beyond phones and computers and coming to the company’s growing family of AI glasses.

At the same time, Meta introduced its first audio-only AI glasses, unveiled the next-generation Ray-Ban Meta, expanded its Meta Glasses lineup, announced new capabilities for Meta Ray-Ban Display, and revealed Meta VR Glasses, a roughly 100-gram headset designed to deliver an immersive VR experience without looking like a traditional VR headset.

By the end of 2026, Meta says it will have more than 100 AI glasses styles across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses.

Here’s the full rundown.

Muse is coming to Meta’s AI glasses

Muse was already one of Meta’s more ambitious AI projects, but Connect showed where the company wants to take it next.

Meta says Muse will come to its AI glasses in the coming months, allowing users to interact with their personal AI agent without reaching for a phone or computer. You’ll be able to say your agent’s name and have Muse respond based on what you’re looking at.

That means you could point your glasses at a product on a store shelf, a flyer, or even a long school-supply list and ask Muse to help. Because the glasses can see what you’re seeing, you won’t necessarily have to explain the context first.

Meta is also expanding Muse’s voice capabilities. Instead of treating voice interaction as a quick question-and-answer exchange, the company says Muse can hold longer conversations while continuing to work on tasks in the background.

Muse is also getting its own email address, giving the agent another way to communicate and complete tasks.

On Mac, Muse is gaining computer-use capabilities. With permission, it can operate apps on a Mac and continue working through tasks even after the user walks away from the computer.

Meta is also expanding Muse’s connections to other services. New shopping and payment integrations include Walmart, Best Buy, American Eagle Outfitters, DICK’S Sporting Goods, Fanatics, Gap, Michael Kors, Sephora, Ulta, Wayfair, Shop Pay, and PayPal. Expedia and Instacart are also coming, while Notion, Granola, GitHub, and Box are being added for work-related tasks.

And then there’s Muse Charm.

It’s a small, pocketable device designed specifically for talking to Muse, using Meta’s real-time voice technology. Meta says it will share more about Muse Charm later this year.

Meta introduces its first audio AI glasses

Meta is also expanding beyond glasses with cameras and displays.

The new Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses are designed around open-ear audio and AI, essentially putting the functionality of wireless earbuds into a pair of everyday glasses. They’re Meta’s slimmest and lightest AI glasses yet and come in two new styles: Clubmaster and Burbank.

The glasses offer up to 12 hours of battery life and support a broad range of optical prescriptions.

You can use them for music, podcasts, calls, and conversations with Meta AI while still remaining aware of your surroundings.

It’s an interesting direction for Meta because not everyone wants a camera or display sitting on their face. Audio glasses strip the concept down to something much closer to conventional eyewear while keeping the AI interaction intact.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 gets a slimmer design and longer battery life

Meta also introduced Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, the next generation of its best-selling AI glasses.

The new model gets a slimmer and more comfortable design, a new customizable action button for quicker access to Meta AI and other features, and the longest battery life of any Ray-Ban Meta model so far.

Meta is also adding two new frame shapes: Aviator and Zena.

The Aviator is exactly what it sounds like: a take on the familiar aviator silhouette. Zena, meanwhile, is a cat-eye design aimed at giving the lineup a more fashion-focused option.

Meta Glasses lineup grows past 100 styles

Meta is clearly betting that AI glasses need to look like glasses first.

The company announced additional Meta Glasses styles, including a new Ivory colorway for the Kylie Jenner collaboration and its first collaboration with LISA. Meta is also introducing new frame shapes called Capri and Nova.

There’s a lower-cost Meta Adventurer model, while the limited-edition Meta Fury will initially be available only at Meta Lab locations.

Meta is also introducing a Mix & Match program in the US that lets customers customize frame, lens, and case colors.

The glasses are expanding into additional markets as well, with Meta Glasses launching in Singapore, South Korea, and Mexico, followed by Brazil and the United Arab Emirates.

Meta also announced new optical color options for Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2.

By the end of this year, Meta expects its broader AI glasses lineup to exceed 100 different options across Ray-Ban, Oakley, and Meta Glasses.

Meta adds hearing enhancement and smarter AI features

The company also announced a surprisingly practical software feature: hearing enhancement.

Meta says the FDA-cleared feature is designed to help adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss hear better through supported AI glasses. It can be set up at home without a clinic visit or prescription.

In the US, it is scheduled to launch later this year for $149.99, with HSA/FSA eligibility, or as part of a Meta One subscription.

Meta is also adding audio balance controls, allowing users to shift sound toward either ear or switch to mono audio.

Other new AI glasses features include hands-free guided workouts for running and cycling, nutrition tracking with personalized insights, and shopping assistance that can identify products, prices, and reviews. Users will be able to set alerts or make purchases using their voice.

The glasses are also gaining more natural navigation instructions. Instead of telling you to turn onto a specific street, Meta says directions can use landmarks, such as telling you to turn left at a supermarket.

And for creators, Meta is adding Dolby Atmos capture. The company says its AI glasses will be able to capture video with 360-degree spatial sound, bringing more immersive audio to recorded footage.

Meta Ray-Ban Display gets more useful

Meta also announced several upgrades for Meta Ray-Ban Display.

The glasses are gaining hands-free navigation features, a personalized hologram for video calls, Dolby Atmos capture with spatial surround sound, and other improvements.

Meta is also expanding availability. Meta Ray-Ban Display can now be ordered online for the first time, with sales expanding to Canada and the UK and preorders opening in France, Italy, and Germany ahead of availability on October 13.

The company is also bringing cycling and public-transit directions to Meta Ray-Ban Display in the US and Canada later this month.

Meta VR Glasses bring VR down to roughly 100 grams

Then came the hardware announcement that most directly challenges the traditional VR headset design.

Meta VR Glasses are designed to deliver immersive VR and spatial computing in a form factor that looks much closer to a pair of glasses. They weigh about 100 grams, which Meta says is five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3.

The glasses use a 5K Infinite Display based on micro-OLED panels. Instead of putting the entire computer and battery on your face, Meta has moved those components into a separate puck that can clip onto a belt, pocket, or bag.

That lets the glasses stay considerably lighter.

The device can create multiple virtual displays, and users can turn a table or desk into a virtual keyboard and touchpad. Navigation uses eye tracking and hand gestures rather than traditional VR controllers.

Meta is positioning the device as a personal cinema, workspace, gaming system, and spatial-computing platform.

The company says Meta VR Glasses will be the first IMAX Enhanced certified VR device and will support an extensive lineup of entertainment services. Meta is working with Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, ESPN, Tubi, and others, while 3D content will be available from services including Disney+, Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+.

Sports are another major focus. Meta says it is working with ESPN, MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, UFC, and others to provide more than 100 immersive live sporting events each year.

Meta VR Glasses are scheduled to arrive in spring 2027 for $1,299.99.

Holograms are coming to Meta VR Glasses

Meta is also using the VR glasses to experiment with more natural video communication.

The company demonstrated a photorealistic, real-time hologram that represents the user during calls. The hologram can reproduce the person’s face and expressions after a quick capture using a phone.

The feature is expected to be available on Meta VR Glasses when they launch next spring. Meta also says an early-access version will begin rolling out in the US on WhatsApp for Meta Ray-Ban Display users in the coming months.

Beat Saber is getting its biggest update yet

Gaming remains a major part of Meta’s VR strategy, and Beat Saber is getting a substantial overhaul.

Coming next spring to Meta VR Glasses and Meta Quest, the update introduces Flux, a new hand-tracking-focused mode in which players use their hands to interact with the game rather than relying entirely on traditional controllers.

Meta says the update also includes the game’s first major visual refresh and new logo in nearly a decade.

More games are coming to Quest and Meta VR Glasses

Meta also announced a collection of new games designed around hand tracking.

The lineup includes Cardmada, Dice Throne Digital, Dragon Grove, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Dual Destinies, Supernatural, Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities, and Two Point Hospital. These games will support hand tracking on Meta VR Glasses and can also be played with controllers on Meta Quest.

Meta Connect 2026 was really about one bigger idea

Taken individually, the announcements from Meta Connect 2026 cover a lot of ground: new glasses, better audio, VR, games, spatial computing, hearing assistance, navigation, shopping, holograms, and AI agents.

But they all point in the same direction.

Meta wants AI to become something you can access throughout your day without constantly pulling out a phone. Muse is the software layer, while AI glasses and Meta VR Glasses are becoming the hardware through which that intelligence follows you around.

That explains why Meta spent so much time expanding its glasses portfolio this year. The company isn’t simply trying to make another smart-glasses accessory. It is building a range of devices around the idea that AI should be available wherever you are, whether you’re listening to music, navigating a city, shopping, working, watching a movie, or playing a game.

And with more than 100 AI glasses styles expected by the end of 2026, Meta is clearly trying to make that future look a lot more like ordinary eyewear than a piece of futuristic hardware.

The bigger question now is how quickly people will actually start treating glasses as their everyday computer.
