Max, the new streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery, has announced that it will be producing an original “Harry Potter” scripted television series. The announcement was made during the unveiling of Max on the Warner Bros. lot in Los Angeles, and it was confirmed that the series will be a faithful adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s beloved “Harry Potter” book series.

The new Max Original series will be produced by Warner Bros. Television, and it will be available on Max in the US and globally once produced. The series will span over a decade, with each season adapting one of Rowling’s books. The adaptation will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fans but will retain the fantastic detail, much-loved characters, and dramatic locations that have been cherished by fans for over twenty-five years.

“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” said Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO & Max Content. “Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon, and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros. Television and J.K. Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years.”

J.K. Rowling, who is an executive producer of the series, expressed her enthusiasm for the new adaptation. “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation, which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series,” said Rowling.

The series is being produced in association with Brontë Film and TV, and Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers of the series are J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts. David Heyman, who produced the original “Harry Potter” films, is also in talks to executive produce.

For fans of the “Harry Potter” franchise, the announcement of the new series is exciting news. While the original films have a special place in the hearts of fans, the opportunity to delve deeper into the world of Harry Potter through a long-form television series is something that many fans have been hoping for. The series will allow fans to experience the story in a new way and will introduce the Wizarding World to a new generation of fans.

Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of Rowling’s books is also reassuring to fans. The Harry Potter books have been beloved by fans for decades, and any adaptation needs to be faithful to the source material. With Rowling serving as an executive producer, fans can be confident that the new series will stay true to the books.
