Master & Dynamic has revived its ME05 wired earphones, originally launched in 2015, with a refreshed design and modern features aimed at high-fidelity enthusiasts. Discontinued in 2022, the ME05 is making a comeback at its original $199 price point, with orders now open on the Master & Dynamic website and Amazon availability expected by winter.

What’s changed in the 2024 ME05?

The 2024 iteration sticks to the ME05’s hallmark premium brass enclosures, crafted for both durability and sound quality, but integrates several key upgrades:

  • Advanced drivers: The earphones now feature custom 8mm bio-cellulose drivers, replacing the titanium drivers in the original. This upgrade promises a richer, more natural sound profile.
  • Hi-Res DAC support: To address modern device compatibility, the new ME05 includes a USB-C adapter with a built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC), supporting audio resolutions up to 32-bit/384kHz. This makes the earphones a strong choice for hi-res streaming platforms like Tidal and Qobuz.
  • Improved call quality: A new MEMS microphone with proprietary wind reduction ensures clearer calls, even in noisy or outdoor environments.
  • Fit and finish: The earphones come with seven different ear tip options—two foam and five silicone sizes—ensuring a snug, personalized fit. Available finishes include gold/black, gunmetal/black, palladium/black, and palladium/white.

The ME05 relaunch reflects the growing trend of blending timeless design with modern tech. Despite the surge in wireless earphones, wired options remain attractive to audiophiles who value sound quality over convenience. The inclusion of a USB-C DAC adapter ensures the ME05 remains relevant for users of newer devices that lack headphone jacks, such as the iPhone 15.

They feature an in-line remote with three buttons for volume control and playback. The cable ends in a 3.5mm audio jack, and there is also a USB-C adapter included. The overall design is elegant and premium, highlighting the high-quality materials used in the construction of the earphones.

The image also displays three additional pairs of ear tips in different sizes, indicating that the earphones come with customizable fit options. The earphones have a premium look with a combination of metal and black materials, and the Master & Dynamic logo is visible on the connector part of the cable.

For those who prioritize wired listening, the ME05 delivers high-end audio performance in a stylish package. The balance of improved functionality and familiar aesthetics ensures its appeal to both nostalgic owners of the original ME05 and first-time buyers seeking a premium wired experience.
