Lime, the familiar name in bike-sharing, is betting big on a future where pedaling is optional. The company is currently testing two new electric bikes designed to attract a wider range of riders. The key feature? A throttle, allowing users to cruise without breaking a sweat.
The first, the LimeBike, is a hybrid. It offers the best of both worlds: a traditional pedal-assist mode for those who enjoy the workout, and a throttle for those who prefer a hands-off experience. This model also boasts a slew of improvements over its predecessors, including a quick-adjust seatpost and larger storage options.
Lime’s second offering, the LimeGlider, is a full-on pedal-free experience. Think of it as a cross between a bike and a scooter. With its footrests, padded seat, and lower center of gravity, the LimeGlider promises a comfortable and stable ride.

Both new models share a common theme: accessibility. The bikes feature wider tires for better grip, step-through frames for easy mounting, and larger baskets for carrying belongings. Lime CEO Wayne Ting believes these enhancements will bring bike-sharing to a broader audience, helping the company move closer to its goal of carbon-free, shared transportation.
For now, these are early days. Lime is conducting pilot programs in Atlanta, Zurich, and Seattle. If successful, these pedal-free e-bikes could redefine urban mobility, making bike-sharing a more appealing option for those who might otherwise choose a car or public transportation.
“We’re thrilled to unveil two new vehicles we anticipate riders will love,” said Wayne Ting, CEO of Lime. “The LimeGlider and LimeBike offer a glimpse at the future of micromobility, designed with a wider rider audience in mind to help us draw closer to our mission of building a future where transportation is shared, affordable and carbon-free. We’ve reimagined every touchpoint, from the tires to the phone holder, to make our riders feel comfortable and confident as they ride. We can’t wait to learn more from our pilots this summer as we continue our track record of stellar in-house design and truly differentiated hardware.”
