Television technology has come a long way in recent years. Sets have gotten bigger, brighter, thinner and sharper. But this year at CES 2024, LG’s focus isn’t on pushing the envelope of display hardware. Instead, the company is doubling down on artificial intelligence to take its critically acclaimed OLED TVs to the next level when it comes to picture quality.
Across its 2024 OLED lineup, from the opulent Signature OLED M series down to the more affordable entry-level B4 sets, LG has armed its new α11 and α8 processors with better graphics performance and faster processing speeds. This powers what the company calls “discerning AI judgment” that can optimize colors, brightness, contrast and overall clarity scene-by-scene based on creative intent.
For example, Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro breaks each frame into blocks and individually adjusts brightness and contrast by analyzing incoming light levels, leading to a more three-dimensional, lifelike image. Meanwhile, upscaling of lower resolution content promises to sharpen blurry objects effectively at the pixel level so that nothing distracts from the emotion of the storytelling.
Of course, home theater purists have the option of disabling these AI enhancements and tweaking settings to their liking. But for most viewers who want their expensive OLED TVs to showcase movies and shows at their utmost potential right out of the box, LG’s eighth-generation AI Processor Gen6 promises their best results yet.

While brightness and other display specifications remain similar to last year’s well-reviewed models, these AI and software-focused upgrades may be enough to tempt enthusiasts. As always, eyes will be on LG at CES in January (9-12) to see its latest and greatest OLEDs up close and personal. But on paper, it’s clear the future of television isn’t just bigger and brighter — it’s also smarter. The degree to which that holds will determine if the extra investment over proven performers like LG’s G3 OLED is warranted.
