Apple‘s latest iPad Pro refresh wasn’t just about a bump in processing power, it appears to be the opening act in a company-wide design shift. According to sources close to Bloomberg, Apple is setting its sights on making its flagship devices, the iPhone and MacBook Pro, significantly slimmer iPhone 17 lineup.
This move follows the release of the new OLED iPad Pro, which boasts the thinnest design for an iPad yet. This focus on a svelte profile is rumored to be the start of a new design philosophy for Apple, with an emphasis on creating devices that are leaders in both performance and portability.
Bloomberg‘s sources indicate that Apple is working diligently to make the iPhone 17 “significantly skinnier.” This design shift isn’t limited to just iPhones though, as the MacBook Pro and even the Apple Watch are also rumored to be getting trimmer waistlines.
The ultimate goal appears to be establishing a new class of Apple devices that are the undisputed champions of thinness and lightness within their respective categories.
This focus on a slimmer profile for the iPhone 17 isn’t entirely new. Back in October, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would incorporate a new, thinner, and lighter motherboard technology into the iPhone 17. This change could free up valuable real estate within the phone’s chassis, potentially allowing Apple to either increase battery life or incorporate additional features without sacrificing the phone’s overall size.
The report also suggests that the same size-reduction techniques used on the iPhone 17 will be applied to the MacBook Pro line as well.
Beyond the slimmer design, rumors surrounding the iPhone 17 include a slight adjustment to the display size of the iPhone 17 Plus model and a significant upgrade to the front-facing camera, with a bump to a megapixel count of 24.
