Some of the early adopters of Apple‘s latest iPhone offerings, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, are voicing concerns about excessive heat generated during use and while charging. This issue has emerged as a potential challenge for Apple’s flagship product.

Reports of overheating have surfaced on various Apple online forums and social media platforms, including Reddit and X (formerly Twitter). Users have expressed that the back or sides of the phones become noticeably hot to the touch when engaged in activities like gaming, phone calls, or FaceTime video chats. For some, the problem becomes more pronounced when the device is connected to a charger.

Apple’s customer support has also been receiving inquiries related to this heat problem, with customers being directed to an older support article that offers guidance on managing an iPhone that feels excessively hot or cold. The article suggests that overheating might occur when running resource-intensive apps, charging the device, or setting up a new iPhone.

As of now, Apple has not issued an official statement regarding these heat-related complaints.

The iPhone is a cornerstone of Apple’s revenue, and any issues with its performance receive considerable attention. Typically, problems are addressed through software updates or other remedies, but sometimes they resolve themselves. Apple has an extensive testing process in place to identify and rectify potential problems before mass production.

It’s worth noting that electronic devices, especially those powered by high-performance processors, can generate heat during operation. The key question here is whether the reported heat levels exceed what users consider acceptable.

Some users suspect that the iPhone setup process, particularly the data transfer from iCloud and the background operation of certain apps like Instagram or Uber, might be contributing to or exacerbating the heat issue. Some have even posted videos measuring the phone’s temperature with thermometers to highlight the problem. Comments such as “iPhone 15 Pro Max gets really hot easily” and “I’m just browsing social media, and it’s burning up” have been circulating online. In some cases, the heat was intense enough to be felt through phone cases.

The natural titanium iPhone 15 Pro gets extremely hot, so much so that it becomes difficult to hold. Furthermore, it heats up after just a 2-minute FaceTime call or when scrolling through reels for 8-10 minutes. However, it’s not a universal problem, as some iPhone 15 Pro owners report not experiencing any unusual heat issues, while others find the heat levels consistent with previous models. For some users, using a protective case seems to mitigate the sensation of excessive heat.

A particularly concerning report involves the iPhone 15 Pro Max getting so hot during a call that it shut down and took several minutes to restart. Apple devices do have safety mechanisms in place to shut down when they overheat, but this instance raises questions about the extent of the issue.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max are equipped with a new A17 Pro chip designed to enhance gaming performance. This added power could potentially contribute to the heating problem. Additionally, these models feature a titanium frame, a departure from the stainless-steel design used since 2017.

These reports of heat-related issues follow complaints from customers regarding the FineWoven material used in iPhone 15 cases, which some users found prone to scratching and getting dirty more easily compared to previous designs. These complaints have been linked to Apple’s environmental initiatives.

As Apple users continue to share their experiences and as more users get their hands on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, the company may need to address these concerns to ensure a smooth user experience with its latest flagship devices.
