Google is bringing a breath of fresh air to its Pixel smartphone lineup, announcing the launch of a tranquil new mint color option for its latest flagships, the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. The soft green shade evokes thoughts of lush meadows and promises to “invite the mind into a state of energizing calmness,” according to Google.

While the color was inspired by vibrant hues found in nature, according to Google, the mint finish is quite understated in person. It can appear nearly white indoors and only takes on a subtle pale green tint when hit by natural light. So this isn’t the bright, saturated seafoam hue some may have envisioned.

Rather, the elegant mint exudes refinement. It’s a daring yet focused color meant to reflect an “optimistic fresh start” in the new year, Google proclaims. Marketing hyperbole aside, the color does present buyers with a new neutral option between black and white when selecting a Pixel.

Mint is exclusive to Google’s online store and its affiliate carrier, Google Fi. Those interested can purchase a 128GB Pixel 8 or 8 Pro in mint green beginning January 25th in the U.S. Cases and accessories in the matching color can also be bought via Google’s store.

This marks the fourth color available for both the Pixel 8 and super-sized 8 Pro after the standard black, hazel, and rose gold options at launch last October. Mint brings welcome variety, especially for regular Pixel 8 buyers who so far had no exciting colors to choose from. The glossy glass back of the smaller Pixel 8 may also make mint appear slightly more vivid compared to the muted matte finish of the Pixel 8 Pro.
