A Google Gemini AI app for iPhone's iOS platform. The image shows three smartphone screens demonstrating different features of an app called Gemini. The first screen shows a live call interface with options to hold or end the call. The second screen displays a study feature with a DNA replication quiz, showing a DNA strand and the text "Quiz me on DNA replication." The third screen illustrates an image generation feature, where a user has requested an image of a tiny dragon hatching from an egg in a sunlit meadow with glowing butterflies. The generated image of the dragon is shown below the request.

Google has just launched its much-anticipated Gemini AI app for iPhone, marking an important move in the competition to make AI chatbots an everyday part of our mobile experience. Available for free on the App Store, this simple app gives you quick access to Google’s AI-powered Gemini bot, allowing you to engage via text, voice, or even images, much like the web or the Gemini section of the Google app.

The standout feature of this app, however, is the introduction of Gemini Live, a new mode that lets users interact with the bot in a more conversational way. This feature, already available on Android, is now accessible on iPhones for the first time. It enables real-time voice interaction with the bot and integrates seamlessly with your device’s Dynamic Island and lock screen, making it even more convenient to access while you’re on the go.

An image featuring a phone against a white background. On the left, the word ‘Gemini’ is at the top, and ‘Live’ is in large font below it, which basically Google's new Gemini Live AI voice assistant. On the right, the phone shows a gradient blue-to-black screen with a red ‘End’ button, a green ‘Hold’ button, and a pause symbol in the center, which is a Gemini Live AI voice assistant interface. Above this is text that reads ‘Start a conversation to build positive habits and more.’

Despite its advanced features, the Gemini app on iOS is still somewhat limited compared to its Android counterpart. For example, you can’t use it to control system settings or third-party apps directly—those features are still reserved for devices like Google’s Pixel phones. That said, Gemini can pull in information from other Google services like Maps and YouTube, allowing you to quickly get directions or play music.

Ultimately, the app’s main goal is to establish a new level of convenience, pushing users to add Gemini to their home screens and integrate it into their daily routines. By offering easy access via the iPhone’s Action Button or other quick-access spots, Google aims to make Gemini as habitual as checking notifications.
