Attention all Dexcom G7 users! The long wait is finally over. From today onwards, you can say goodbye to the hassle of juggling your phone and instead, view your real-time blood sugar data directly on your Apple Watch. This highly anticipated feature, named “Direct to Apple Watch,” conveniently puts your essential health information on your wrist, no matter where your phone is.
Dexcom listened to its users. One of the most requested features for the G7 CGM system was a seamless way to access blood sugar readings on the Apple Watch. Now, with just a glance at your wrist, you can see your current glucose level, receive personalized alerts, and track trends – all without needing your phone nearby.
Think about it: early morning jog without your phone? No problem! Phone chilling on the charger across the room? No sweat! With the G7’s dedicated Bluetooth connection to the Apple Watch, you can stay on top of your blood sugar no matter the situation.

This isn’t a complete phone replacement, however. While the G7 app on Apple Watch offers a fantastic way to view on-the-go data and alerts, it’s not meant to be the primary hub for your CGM experience. Setting up the G7 system and pairing it with your Apple Watch still requires a compatible iPhone. Additionally, sharing your glucose data with loved ones or caregivers necessitates your phone to be within a 20-foot range.
The magic of the Apple Health app also comes into play here. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive picture of your health, you’ll still need your iPhone to view your blood sugar data alongside other health metrics like activity levels, menstrual cycles, and sleep patterns.
The rollout of Direct to Apple Watch starts in the US, UK, and Ireland, with plans to expand to additional markets soon. To experience this game-changing feature, update your Dexcom G7 app to version 2.1 and ensure you have an Apple Watch Series 6 or later running watchOS 10 or higher. Don’t forget, your iPhone needs to be running iOS 17 or later as well.
