Apple Arcade’s September drop: puzzles, puzzles, puzzles

One game is fast and addictive, the other is slow and soothing — together, they make Apple Arcade’s puzzle lineup even stronger.

Apple Arcade is about to get a lot cozier (and a lot more strategic), with two hit puzzle games joining the subscription service on September 3, 2026 — Block Blast!+ and Art of Fauna: Cozy Puzzles+.

If you’ve spent any time scrolling through the App Store‘s top charts over the past couple of years, you’ve probably seen Block Blast pop up. It’s one of those deceptively simple games — slot colorful blocks onto a grid, clear rows and columns, chase that satisfying combo — that somehow manages to eat up way more of your day than you planned. Now it’s making the jump to Arcade as Block Blast!+, which basically means the exact same addictive gameplay you already know, minus the ads and in-app purchase nagging that usually comes with free-to-play puzzlers. That’s honestly the biggest selling point of Arcade in general: you’re paying a flat subscription fee so you never have to watch a 30-second video ad just to get one more move.

The second new arrival is a bit more of a sleeper hit, but arguably has the more interesting backstory. Art of Fauna: Cozy Puzzles+ actually won Apple‘s own 2025 App Store Award for Cultural Impact, so it’s not exactly flying under the radar. The game blends jigsaw-style puzzle solving with storytelling about wildlife and conservation — you piece together gorgeous nature-inspired artwork of animals, and as you go, you unlock little narrative bits about the species and habitats involved. It’s built with accessibility in mind too, which Apple specifically called out, so it’s designed to be a genuinely relaxing experience rather than a stressful race against a timer.

Together, these two make an interesting pair because they cover pretty different moods. Block Blast!+ is the fast, twitchy, “one more round” kind of game you play while waiting for coffee to brew. Art of Fauna is the slow-burn, put-on-a-podcast, unwind-before-bed kind of experience. That range is very on-brand for Apple Arcade’s puzzle lineup, which already includes fan favorites like Grindstone, Flow Free+, and Crossword Jam+, along with more recent additions like Everyday Puzzles: Mini Games+ and Water Sort Puzzle: Get Color+.

More than just puzzles this month

September 3 isn’t just a puzzle-focused update — it’s actually a pretty stacked day for Arcade overall. NFL Retro Bowl ’27 is kicking off a new season with a high-stakes Gauntlet Mode addition, which should appeal to anyone who’s been grinding through Retro Bowl’s earlier entries. There’s also Coloring Games for Families+, which throws over 3,000 activities at players of literally any age, and Let’s Play! Oink Games+, a digital adaptation of nine different tabletop games that you can play solo, with friends locally, or online.

Updates hitting existing games first

Before the new puzzlers even land, a few existing Arcade titles are getting refreshed in the weeks leading up to September. puffies. picks up 28 new content packs (including Oden Tomodachi and The Knights collections) starting August 12, Simon’s Cat – Blast Time is rolling out 200 new levels at a pace of 50 per week starting August 20, and stitch. is celebrating a milestone 800 unique hoops with a special commemorative unlock on August 26. It’s a reminder that Apple tends to treat Arcade less like a static library and more like a living service — constantly tweaking and expanding what’s already there, not just adding new titles.

What it actually costs

For anyone who hasn’t dipped a toe into Apple Arcade yet, here’s where the pricing stands right now.

PlanPriceNotes
Apple Arcade standalone$6.99/monthOne-month free trial; new device buyers get 3 months free
Apple One Individual$19.95/monthBundles Arcade with other Apple services, one-month free trial
Apple One Family$27.95/monthUp to six family members share access
Apple One Premier$39.95/monthFull bundle including Arcade

Worth noting: a single Arcade subscription already covers a family of up to six people, so even the standalone $6.99 tier isn’t a bad deal if you’ve got a household full of gamers. Games are playable across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Vision Pro, though availability can shift a bit depending on your specific hardware.

If you’re the type who bounces between quick mobile games and something more meditative, September 3 is shaping up to be a genuinely good day to have an Arcade subscription active.
