As the calendar inches closer to Apple‘s Worldwide Developers Conference in June, the drumbeat of rumors surrounding iOS 18 grows ever louder. The latest whispers come in the form of an alleged leak that suggests Cupertino’s next major iPhone software update could borrow design elements from its nascent visionOS platform for augmented and virtual reality experiences.
The image in question, obtained by MacRumors, purports to show an all-new camera app interface. While seemingly innocuous at first blush, the revamped look bears a striking resemblance to visionOS with its clean lines, ample negative space, and judicious use of translucent layers.

The provenance of this leak, however, is murky at best. MacRumors indicates the image supposedly originated from an anonymous source claiming to have inside access, specifically citing Apple’s internal iOS 18 design resources intended for developer usage. But in the anything-goes world of unsubstantiated leaks, credibility is often in short supply.
Still, this isn’t the first time the iOS 18 rumor mill has nodded toward a visionOS-inspired facelift. Back in February, the relatively unknown publication The Verifier published a report alleging numerous system apps like Apple TV and Safari were in line for translucent redesigns pulling from the mixed reality headset’s aesthetic. Hot on its heels, Bloomberg‘s ever-connected Mark Gurman weighed in, affirming Apple indeed has plans to bring visionOS’s look and feel to iPhones and iPads, though perhaps not until iOS 19.
Gurman’s recent newsletter, however, paints iOS 18 itself as a potentially seismic update, one that has reportedly been described internally as “ambitious and compelling” by Apple’s own leadership. With “major new features and designs” purportedly on deck, a sweeping visionOS design pass would certainly seem to fit that billing.
Of course, a single image – legitimate or not – is hardly a smoking gun. Apple is famously judicious when it comes to unplanned leaks, and the company’s leaders surely understand the immense value in controlling the narrative around major new releases. We’ve been burned by bogus rumors in the past, and even the most reputable insiders can be thrown for a loop on occasion.
But if there’s any fire behind this latest bout of smoke, a widespread visual overhaul of iOS would make a great deal of sense from a strategic standpoint. Not only would it unify the user experience across Apple’s disparate product lines, but a visionOS aesthetic could prime millions upon millions of iPhone owners for the company’s next major new hardware play.
For now though, questions abound. Definitive answers will have to wait until Apple takes the virtual stage at WWDC this summer. Or, should tradition hold, perhaps even longer when the company opts to seed its first iOS 18 beta to developers soon thereafter. In either case, you can count on Blur Busters continuing to separate fact from fiction as the release date for Apple’s next big mobile software update draws near.
