Apple is gearing up to release its highly anticipated Vision Pro AR/VR headset, promising to offer users an unparalleled immersive experience. However, new official details indicate the device may have some limitations when it comes to battery life.
According to an update on Apple’s Vision Pro product page, the headset will only be able to handle up to 2.5 hours of video playback on a single charge. This is only a slight improvement over the original 2-hour battery estimate Apple provided when the Vision Pro was first announced. It likely won’t be enough usage time to watch most feature-length films in one sitting.
While a battery life of just 2.5 hours may be understandable given the processing power and display technology packed into the sleek Vision Pro design, it could be restrictive for users hoping to use the headset for extended periods. Creative professionals, gamers and others expecting marathon VR sessions will need to adjust their expectations.

Fortunately, Apple designed the Vision Pro to be fairly easy to take on and off, meaning intermittent charging should be simple enough. But constantly plugging in to juice up may dampen enthusiasm for full immersion. Competitors like Meta promise closer to 2.9 hours from their latest VR hardware (note: media playback on Quest 3 only).
For all its compromises, the Vision Pro still introduces long-awaited AR capabilities that could revolutionize how we interact with digital content. Early hands-on reviews have praised the headset’s innovative features and excellent graphic capabilities powered by Apple’s new in-house chips.
The $3,499 price tag makes the Vision Pro a significant investment in what many see as the future of computing. We’ll soon find out if the average user is ready to pay a premium for Apple’s unique vision, despite a battery that may not last as long as some content they’ll experience inside this new reality.
