Apple‘s latest Mac accessory update has finally given users what many have been waiting for: a switch to USB-C. Announced alongside the new M4 iMac, the updated versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad now all feature USB-C connectivity, marking the end of the Lightning port across Apple’s accessory lineup.
Prices for these USB-C versions remain the same as their Lightning counterparts: the Magic Mouse is $99, the Magic Keyboard with a numpad is $199, and the Magic Trackpad is $149. All three are available in black or white, though their design has mostly stayed the same, including the quirky choice of charging the Magic Mouse on its underside, rendering it unusable while charging—a design that has sparked ongoing user frustration.

The transition to USB-C for these accessories feels somewhat overdue, especially given that Apple’s Macs and iPads have been USB-C-equipped for years. The iPhone finally made the switch in 2023, largely in response to regulatory pressure from the European Union, which has championed USB-C as a universal standard to reduce electronic waste. By standardizing USB-C across its ecosystem, Apple simplifies device compatibility, allowing users to drop their USB-C-to-Lightning cables in favor of a unified solution.
Interestingly, the iPhone SE remains one of Apple’s few remaining devices with a Lightning port, though it’s likely to get a USB-C upgrade in future iterations. Meanwhile, the AirPods Max, updated to USB-C just last month, received little else in terms of new features, showcasing Apple’s minimalist approach to product refreshes as it gradually leaves the Lightning era behind.
