In a recent report following Apple‘s grand unveiling of the iPhone 15 series, a noteworthy caution has emerged for iPhone enthusiasts. The much-anticipated iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, launched on September 12 during Apple’s ‘Wanderlust’ event, boast a significant upgrade: the adoption of USB-C charging connections, a feature familiar to users of some Android smartphones.

However, a word of warning has come from an unexpected source. An Apple reseller based in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, China, has raised concerns about using Android’s USB-C charging cables with Apple’s latest devices. The reseller, as reported by CNMO, explicitly advises iPhone 15 users against employing these cables due to potential risks, including the possibility of the devices overheating and catching fire.

The reseller’s warning has sparked a debate, with some users speculating whether this cautionary advice is merely a tactic to encourage consumers to invest in genuine Apple charging cords, thereby boosting the company’s revenue. It’s essential to note that Apple, on its support page, has previously stated that the new iPhone models can indeed be charged using USB-C standard connectors, seemingly contradicting the reseller’s claim.

To provide context, the USB-C port featured in the iPhone 15 series is a notable advancement, delivering a substantial 15 times the power output of the previous lightning port’s 0.3W. Apple includes a USB 2-compatible cable with the iPhone 15 Pro purchase, while users have the option to buy a faster USB-3-compatible cable from Apple’s online, offline, and reseller stores, facilitating quicker data transfer speeds.

As iPhone enthusiasts weigh their options, the debate continues: is the reseller’s warning a genuine concern for user safety, or is it part of a larger marketing strategy? As consumers await further clarification, the choice of charging cables for the new iPhone 15 series remains a topic of discussion and deliberation.
