Looks like Apple TV+ is shaking things up! According to Bloomberg, Apple is in talks with big-name Hollywood studios to bring more movies to their streaming service. This could be a big change for Apple, which has mostly focused on creating its own shows so far.
Remember that Friday Night Baseball deal a couple years back? This feels like another step in that direction, with Apple maybe looking to make TV+ a more attractive option for streamers.
Apparently, Apple’s been chatting with some of the biggest movie studios about adding more films to their library, both in the US and abroad. This comes after they dipped their toes into movie licensing earlier this year, adding around 50 Hollywood flicks like “Titanic” and “Mad Max: Fury Road” for US viewers.
Back in 2019, when Apple TV+ first launched, they did things a bit differently. Instead of spending a fortune on existing shows and movies, they focused on making their own stuff, often with big-name stars. This probably helped them keep the price tag low at first (remember the $4.99/month days?). But things have gotten pricier, hitting $9.99/month last year.
Even though Apple has some critically acclaimed shows like “Ted Lasso” and “For All Mankind,” it’s tough to compete with giants like Netflix, which have tons of movies and shows you already know and love. It’s especially tough now that Netflix and Disney+ even have cheaper plans with ads.

So, by adding more Hollywood movies, Apple might be hoping to give people a reason to stick with their service for the long haul (think of it like making Apple TV+ more “sticky”). A bigger library of movies, new and old, could be just the ticket to attract new viewers and keep existing ones happy.
Of course, these are just talks for now, so it’s unclear exactly which studios Apple will partner with or what kind of movies they’ll add.
