With the upcoming release of iOS 18.2, Apple is refining the way we track downloads on our devices, introducing a nifty new feature that places Safari’s download progress directly on your iPhone‘s Lock Screen. Initially spotted in the beta stages, this improvement builds on Apple’s Live Activities, a feature that lets you view real-time updates for ongoing events or tasks.
For Safari users, this means that any ongoing downloads—whether it’s a file, video, or document—can now be tracked from the Lock Screen, providing a more streamlined experience when you’re away from the app itself. If you’re using an iPhone 14 Pro or newer, you’ll also be able to see this progress in the Dynamic Island, a small interactive area at the top of the display designed to keep you updated without interrupting what you’re doing on your phone.
This feature comes as part of iOS 18.2, which is currently in beta and expected to roll out in December. While it might not be the flashiest update, it’s a small but meaningful enhancement, particularly for those who frequently download files and like to keep track of progress without unlocking their device.
