Apple’s iPhone Air MagSafe Battery just got a rare price cut

If the iPhone Air’s thin battery makes you nervous, this rare $20 discount on Apple’s MagSafe pack is the cleanest way to add extra juice.

Apple’s MagSafe battery for the iPhone Air has dropped to its lowest price yet, making it a much easier accessory to justify if you’ve already splurged on Apple’s ultra‑thin flagship. The compact snap‑on pack is now going for around $79 instead of its usual $99, effectively saving you $20 for what is, in many ways, the most natural “companion” accessory for the Air.

If you’ve not kept up with Apple’s naming chaos, the iPhone Air is the super‑slim, super‑light model that trades a bit of raw endurance for that crazy thin 5.6mm profile. Apple itself rates it for up to 27 hours of video playback, and around 22 hours if you’re streaming, which is solid on paper but easier to push to the limit if you game, shoot a lot of 4K video, or just live on social apps all day. That’s exactly the scenario where the MagSafe battery makes sense: instead of carrying a cable and brick, you slap the pack on the back and instantly get a sizeable buffer.

The iPhone Air MagSafe Battery has been designed as a one‑phone accessory: it only works with the Air, and its capacity mirrors the phone itself at 3,149mAh. Apple says it can add up to a 65 percent extra charge to the iPhone Air, effectively stretching that “all‑day” promise into something closer to “day and a half” for a lot of people, or pushing you through a long travel day without nervously hunting for outlets. In more practical terms, that could be the difference between limping home at 5 percent and still having enough battery left to call a ride, navigate in Maps, and stream music on the way.

Physically, the accessory sticks very close to the Air’s design language. It’s extremely slim at roughly 7.5mm, so it doesn’t turn your svelte phone into a brick the moment you attach it. The pack snaps on magnetically via MagSafe, aligns itself, and then just becomes this slightly thicker “plate” on the back that still fits in normal pockets and small bags. If you hate chunky battery cases but still want backup power, this is the appeal: you get the extra battery only when you need it, and the rest of the time your phone stays as thin as Apple intended.

Charging speeds are deliberately conservative but decent enough for a top‑up. On the go, the pack offers up to 12W of wireless charging to the iPhone Air, which is shy of what some third‑party Qi2 batteries can push but in line with Apple’s own MagSafe accessories. If you plug a USB‑C cable into the battery itself, you also get pass‑through charging: it can charge your iPhone while the battery pack is charging, so you can drop the combo on a desk and wake up with both topped off. That pass‑through setup is handy on hotel nightstands or airport lounges where you only get one outlet and don’t want to juggle cables.

There’s a bit of versatility baked in, too. While the pack is exclusive to the iPhone Air for phone charging, its USB‑C port lets it top up smaller accessories like earbuds. Apple calls out AirPods Pro 3 specifically, and the combo of Air + MagSafe battery + AirPods in a pocket or sling bag feels like the “weekend away” kit for a lot of Apple users who don’t want to pack a full charger setup. It’s also fully integrated into iOS: when you snap it on, you see the charging status on the lock screen or in the Batteries widget, so you’re not guessing how much juice is left in the pack.

The elephant in the room with any first‑party Apple accessory is price, and that’s where this deal actually matters. At its regular $99 MSRP, the iPhone Air MagSafe Battery is undeniably expensive, particularly when you compare it to popular MagSafe‑style power banks from Anker and other brands that give you 5,000mAh or more for significantly less. A recent breakdown pointed out that Apple’s pack effectively costs about three times as much per milliamp‑hour as some of the better third‑party options, and it tops out at slower wireless speeds than newer Qi2‑certified rivals. Knock $20 off, though, and the pitch shifts from “painful premium” to “borderline reasonable” for people who want the Apple‑designed look, feel and software integration.

So who should jump on this discount? If you already own an iPhone Air, lean on it heavily throughout the day, and prefer to keep your setup clean and “stock,” this is one of those rare accessories that will quietly improve your life every single day. Think commuters who stream video on long train rides, creators who shoot lots of vertical video, or travelers hopping between flights with little time to plug in. For them, the ability to clip on 65 percent extra battery without bulk or fuss – and at the lowest price we’ve seen – is a pretty easy sell.

On the other hand, if you’re more cost‑sensitive, don’t mind a slightly thicker pack, or want something that will still be useful if you move away from the Air in a year or two, a good third‑party MagSafe or Qi2 battery is still the smarter buy. Apple’s iPhone Air MagSafe Battery, even on sale, is a style‑and‑integration play more than a raw‑value champion. But for those firmly planted in the Apple camp who love the Air precisely because it’s so thin and light, this is finally the moment where the “essential accessory” doesn’t feel quite so painful on the wallet.
