Apple‘s latest flagship phones, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, have been under scrutiny for overheating issues. Despite Apple’s promises of a software fix, a recent incident has cast doubt on the safety of these devices.

The criticism surrounding the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max centered on their cooling mechanisms, with some experts suggesting that hardware limitations might be causing the overheating woes. Apple, in response, maintained that the majority of the issues were software-related and promised a software update would put an end to the concerns.

However, a Reddit user going by the handle u/Trulywenttospace shared a shocking experience that has sent ripples of concern through the iPhone community. The user woke up one morning to a pungent smell of burning plastic, only to discover that their iPhone 15 Pro had seemingly melted overnight. Notably, the device had no screen protector attached.

Images shared on the Reddit thread revealed that the pill-shaped cutout, housing the Dynamic Island and front-facing camera, had melted and fused together, indicating potential problems with the device’s cooling or thermal management system.

Swiftly taking action, the user visited the nearest Apple store, where they received a free replacement for their damaged device. Even Apple employees, renowned for their familiarity with Apple products, expressed shock at the extent of the damage, claiming they had “never seen it before.”

The big question now is whether this incident is an isolated case involving a defective unit or if it signals a more widespread issue that could affect a larger user base. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen whether this alarming incident was a one-off occurrence or if there are underlying problems that might impact a broader audience, leaving iPhone users on edge about the safety of their devices.
