Apple enthusiasts may be in for a pleasant surprise this week, as rumors swirl about the tech giant’s plans to unveil revamped iPads. According to reports from 9to5Mac, it seems that Apple is gearing up to make some significant improvements to three of its iPad models, including the standard version, the iPad Air, and the iPad Mini.
9to5Mac claims to have solid information that supports a report from Supercharged, hinting that Apple is set to announce some noteworthy upgrades. However, not everyone seems to be on the same page about the scale of these changes. In a recent Bloomberg article by Mark Gurman, he expressed some skepticism, stating, “I don’t believe updates of any significance are imminent.” Nevertheless, Gurman did acknowledge that Apple has been working on new chips for the iPads.
So, what exactly can we expect from these potential updates? According to 9to5Mac, Apple is likely to release a press statement revealing that the iPad Air will receive an upgrade to the M2 chip, while the iPad Mini will be powered by the A16 Bionic chip. Apple had already refreshed the iPad Air and the 10th-generation iPad last year, but it’s been quite a while since the iPad Mini got some serious attention, last being equipped with an A15 Bionic chip.
One of the most intriguing tidbits of information centers around the iPad Mini’s display controller. Rumor has it that Apple plans to address the notorious “jelly scroll” issue that has plagued users. Apart from these internal enhancements, 9to5Mac suggests that Apple won’t be making many other changes, so don’t set your expectations too high for grand overhauls like the OLED displays rumored for the next iPad Pro.
