Apple‘s introduction of a tandem OLED display in this year’s M4 iPad Pro marked a significant leap in display technology for the iPad lineup. Industry sources now indicate that this visual advancement may extend to the iPad Air and iPad mini as early as 2026.
Reports suggest Samsung is the frontrunner to supply OLED panels for both models. While a definitive timeline places the launch in 2026, it’s anticipated that the display technology will differ from the high-end tandem OLED found in the iPad Pro. Given the distinct positioning of the iPad Air and mini within Apple’s product ecosystem, a focus on cost-effectiveness is likely to influence the choice of display.
This potential shift aligns with Apple’s historical approach to technology adoption across its product lines. Similar to the iPhone, where OLED displays were initially exclusive to Pro models before becoming standard, the iPad range could follow a similar trajectory. However, the more advanced display features, like ProMotion, may remain exclusive to the Pro models for an extended period.
