Apple‘s smart home ambitions have long been fueled by rumors and leaks surrounding an upgraded HomePod with a full-touch display, capable of displaying more than just a simple waveform. In the latest development, a new leak offers a tantalizing glimpse into what could be the glossy display cover for this highly anticipated device.
The current HomePod and HomePod mini models feature a touch-sensitive glass surface, but their functionality is limited to displaying a basic LED waveform representation. However, rumors have persistently suggested that Apple is working on elevating the HomePod experience by incorporating a full-touch display with a graphical user interface (GUI) akin to that of the Apple TV.
While Apple has remained characteristically tight-lipped about the specifics of this project, the latest leak comes courtesy of @Kosutami_Ito, a prominent leaker on the X social media platform (formerly known as Twitter). The image shared by @Kosutami_Ito purportedly shows the top assembly for a new HomePod display, complete with a glossy cover.
Without a point of reference, it’s challenging to gauge the exact size of the glass shown in the leak. However, the leaker claims that the image showcases a glossy display cover, potentially hinting at the long-rumored touch capabilities.
This latest leak adds to the growing body of evidence suggesting Apple’s intentions to revamp the HomePod’s capabilities. A previously leaked image had already offered a glimpse of what appeared to be a regular HomePod with a top glass capable of displaying images, fueling speculation about the device’s impending transformation.
Other leaks have suggested the possibility of a 7-inch display gracing the new HomePod, although the top glass shown in the recent leaks seems far smaller than that size. This discrepancy could indicate that Apple is exploring multiple design directions, catering to different user preferences and price points.
Interestingly, both the latest leak and the previous one are sourced from a project labeled B720, lending credence to the notion that this model would retain the HomePod’s familiar form factor, with the addition of a display on top.
@Kosutami_Ito has established a reputation as a reliable leaker, having accurately disclosed information about components like USB-C for the iPhone 15. However, the leaker’s track record is not without its missteps, as evidenced by a previous inaccurate leak regarding a supposed iPhone 15 Pro black Thunderbolt cable. Additionally, @Kosutami_Ito has shared details about the iPhone 16’s new battery specifications and heat sink.
