iOS 27 will make it possible to bundle subscriptions across apps and even different developers.

Apple is giving developers more ways to sell subscriptions through the App Store with iOS 27, introducing new Bundles and Suites options alongside multiseat purchasing for organizations and groups.

The changes are designed to move App Store subscriptions beyond the traditional one-app, one-subscriber model. Developers can now prepare to combine multiple subscriptions into a single purchase, while businesses, departments, and other groups can buy multiple subscription seats at once.

Apple announced the changes on September 16 as part of its guidance for developers preparing their subscriptions for iOS 27. The new Bundles and Suites capabilities will also be available on iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and tvOS 27 or later.

Bundles bring multiple subscriptions into one purchase

Apple’s new Bundles feature allows developers to package multiple auto-renewable subscriptions into a single Apple In-App Purchase.

A Bundle can contain subscriptions from a single developer, including subscriptions offered inside one app or across multiple apps. Developers could, for example, combine separate music and podcast subscriptions into one package at a lower price than purchasing each subscription individually.

Apple is also opening Bundles to partnerships between different developers. A fitness app and a nutrition app, for example, could combine their subscriptions into a single health and wellness package.

Multi-developer Bundles can include up to five developers, giving independent developers a way to package complementary services without requiring customers to manage several separate purchases.

Customers will also retain control over the subscriptions inside a Bundle. Through their Apple Account, they can choose to keep individual services or cancel the entire Bundle.

If a customer already has one of the subscriptions included in a Bundle, Apple says the customer can be upgraded to the Bundle and immediately receive access to the additional subscriptions. Apple will also provide a prorated refund for the remaining period of the existing standalone subscription.

Suites are designed for developers with multiple apps

Suites take a slightly different approach.

Rather than combining separate subscriptions into a package, a Suite gives customers access to a collection of apps through a single subscription from one developer.

That could be useful for developers with several complementary productivity apps. A company offering separate writing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications, for instance, could provide access to all three through one Suite subscription.

A Suite can provide a subscription across as many as 15 apps, according to Apple’s developer documentation.

The result is a subscription model that can make a developer’s broader app ecosystem feel more like a single service instead of a collection of independently purchased apps.

Apple is also adding multiseat subscriptions

Apple’s subscription changes aren’t limited to consumer bundles.

The company is also enabling multiseat purchases, allowing organizations and groups to purchase multiple seats for a subscription through Apple’s purchasing systems.

With Volume Purchasing, organizations using Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager will be able to buy subscriptions through a single Apple In-App Purchase and assign seats using a device management provider.

Group Purchases take a more direct approach. A subscriber can purchase multiple seats in one transaction and invite other people to join. Apple handles the seat assignment and invitation process.

That opens subscription purchasing to scenarios such as small businesses sharing a productivity service among employees, individual departments purchasing access for their teams, or groups of collaborators using a creative application together.

Apple says these purchases can allow groups to become paying subscribers without going through traditional IT or procurement workflows.

Multiseat purchasing is enabled by default

One notable detail for developers is that multiseat purchases are enabled by default for subscriptions in App Store Connect starting September 16.

Developers still have control over the feature. They can disable multiseat purchasing entirely or manage its availability separately across the App Store, Apple Business, and Apple School Manager.

Apple says Volume Purchasing will launch on October 22, 2026, while Group Purchases are scheduled to arrive this winter.

Developers need StoreKit 2

Developers interested in the new subscription options will need to make sure their apps use StoreKit 2 to merchandise and process Apple In-App Purchases.

For Bundles and Suites specifically, Apple says apps must support iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, or tvOS 27 or later. Subscriptions included in a Bundle must also use the same subscription duration.

Apple is currently asking developers interested in Bundles and Suites to submit a request for access. Once approved, Apple will work with developers on configuration details, including subscription information, pricing, and the planned launch date.

Multi-developer Bundles require additional coordination. Each participating developer must submit an interest form and sign Apple’s Multi-Developer Bundle Program Legal Addendum before configuration can begin.

Apple will configure and publish Bundles and Suites in batches.

A bigger shift in how App Store subscriptions can work

The changes give developers considerably more flexibility in how they package recurring services.

Until now, the App Store subscription experience has largely revolved around individual apps offering their own subscriptions. Bundles can turn several subscriptions into one package, Suites can connect a developer’s broader collection of apps under one subscription, and multiseat purchases extend the model to groups and organizations.

For customers, Apple is also keeping the purchase experience inside the App Store. When purchasing a Bundle or Suite, the App Store displays the apps included in the subscription so customers can download them and access their subscription content.

Apple says Bundles and Suites will become available later this year across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and tvOS 27.

For developers with multiple apps, subscription partnerships, or products aimed at teams, the changes could make the App Store a considerably more flexible platform for selling recurring access.
