Amazon has opened preorders for four redesigned Kindle models in the US: the Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition, Kindle Colorsoft, and Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. Prices start at $199.99 for the new Paperwhite and go up to $319.99 for the Colorsoft Signature Edition.
The four e-readers are part of Amazon’s completely redesigned 2026 Kindle family. They share a new flush-front design that removes the raised border around the display, along with thinner bodies and new color options. Amazon says the new display architecture uses a reverse-stack construction to create a more seamless reading surface.
Amazon says Paperwhite and Colorsoft preorders are becoming available on a rolling basis across the same markets where the new Kindle lineup is launching.

Kindle Paperwhite starts at $199.99
The new Kindle Paperwhite is priced at $199.99 with 16GB of storage and comes in Graphite.
Amazon has redesigned the Paperwhite to be thinner and lighter than the previous generation while retaining its waterproof design and adjustable warm light. Battery life is rated at up to 12 weeks on a single charge.
The display uses an oxide thin-film transistor backplane that Amazon says delivers the largest Paperwhite display in the lineup along with its highest contrast ratio. The company says this produces deeper blacks and crisp text while maintaining readability in different lighting conditions.
The Paperwhite also gets the new flush-front design used across the 2026 Kindle family.
Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition costs $249.99
For $249.99, the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition doubles storage to 32GB and adds an aluminum rear housing.
It also includes an auto-adjusting front light, pogo-pin dock charging and double-tap page turning. Amazon is offering the Signature Edition in Graphite and Seaglass Green.
The Signature Edition remains thinner than its predecessor despite the additional hardware, according to Amazon.
Kindle Colorsoft starts at $289.99
The redesigned Kindle Colorsoft is the option for readers who want a color E Ink display. The 16GB model costs $289.99 and comes in Graphite.
It has a 7-inch color display designed to deliver what Amazon describes as paper-like color without the harsher glare associated with conventional tablet displays. Amazon specifically highlights use cases such as colorful book covers, travel guides, comics and graphic novels.
The new Colorsoft display uses a light guide with nitride LEDs, an oxide backplane and custom waveforms. Amazon has also redesigned the display stack with reverse printing technology to provide edge-to-edge color. Micro-deflectors in the light guide are designed to reduce stray light and improve uniformity, while an optical coating is intended to improve clarity.
Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition costs $319.99
At $319.99, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition is the most expensive model in Amazon’s redesigned Kindle lineup.
It upgrades the standard Colorsoft with 32GB of storage and aluminum housing. It also includes an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turning and pogo-pin dock charging. The Signature Edition comes in Graphite and Fig.
Like the standard Colorsoft, it has a 7-inch color display and is designed for color reading rather than simply converting black-and-white content into color.
Four Kindle models are now available to preorder
| Model | Storage | Price | Display |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kindle Paperwhite | 16GB | $199.99 | E Ink |
| Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition | 32GB | $249.99 | E Ink |
| Kindle Colorsoft | 16GB | $289.99 | Color E Ink |
| Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition | 32GB | $319.99 | Color E Ink |
Amazon is also selling the redesigned entry-level Kindle separately, starting at $149.99, while a 32GB model with an aluminum back starts at $189.99. Those two models are already available rather than part of the preorder launch.
Amazon has also introduced new Kindle accessories, including the $34.99 Kindle Click Bluetooth page-turn remote and a $79.99 Page-Turn Cover with integrated physical buttons for the Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition.
The 2026 refresh therefore gives Amazon’s Kindle range a common visual identity while separating the models primarily by display type, storage and premium hardware. The Paperwhite remains the waterproof black-and-white option, while Colorsoft adds a 7-inch color display for readers who want comics, illustrations and other color content.
