If you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to upgrade your e-reader, Amazon’s Black Friday sales might have just delivered. For the first time, the newest versions of the Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite are discounted, offering excellent deals on devices that elevate the e-reading experience. Let’s dive into what’s new and why these deals are worth considering.

The 2024 Kindle

The base Kindle, updated for 2024, is down to $84.99 (a $25 discount) at retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Target. This entry-level device got some modest but meaningful upgrades this year. It now features a brighter screen (matching the Paperwhite’s luminance), a lighter build, and a faster processor. While the performance bump is subtle, the improved display and portability make it an ideal option for casual readers. The new matcha green colorway adds a fresh aesthetic touch to an otherwise practical device, available at $89.99 during the sale at select stores.

However, if you already own the 2022 Kindle, the updates may not feel revolutionary unless you’re drawn to the aesthetics or need a backlight upgrade.

The 2024 Kindle Paperwhite

At $129.99 (down $30 from its $160 price) at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target, the latest Kindle Paperwhite is the true star of this sale. Amazon has stretched the screen to 7 inches, the largest in the Paperwhite lineup, and enhanced the display with a 25% brighter backlight and the highest contrast ratio of any Kindle. These upgrades make text crisper and more comfortable for extended reading sessions.

The Paperwhite also boasts a three-month battery life, a step up from the 10-week claim on its predecessor. With faster page turns (25% improved speed), it’s a smoother experience for page flippers. If you’re often immersed in books, this is the Kindle to get—especially with its IPX8 waterproofing, perfect for poolside or bath reads.

The Signature Edition, a slightly more premium version of the Paperwhite, adds wireless charging and auto-adjusting brightness. However, for most readers, the base Paperwhite strikes the best balance of features and price.

Why upgrade now?

If you’re a first-time Kindle buyer or upgrading from an older model, these sales make it easier than ever to join the Kindle ecosystem. The Paperwhite’s waterproof build, longer battery life, and larger screen offer an excellent experience for avid readers, while the base Kindle remains an affordable and capable option for everyday use.

This Black Friday deal is a chance to grab these devices at their lowest prices yet, whether for yourself or as a thoughtful gift for the bookworm in your life.
