If you’ve been eyeing a new Xbox console, controller, or game, brace yourself: Microsoft just dropped a bombshell. Starting May 1, 2025, the tech giant is jacking up prices on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, controllers, headsets, and even some new first-party games across the globe. The price hikes are substantial, with the flagship Xbox Series X now retailing at $599.99—a $100 jump from its previous $499.99. The more budget-friendly Xbox Series S isn’t spared either, with its 512GB model climbing from $299.99 to $379.99, and the 1TB version hitting $429.99, up from $349.99. Even the sleek 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition Xbox Series X now costs a hefty $729.99, up from $599.99.
Accessories are taking a hit too. The Xbox Wireless Controller (Core) is creeping up to $64.99 from $59.99, while the Xbox Wireless Headset jumps to $119.99 from $109.99. And if you’re planning to pick up some new games this holiday season, expect to shell out $79.99 for select first-party Xbox titles, up from the current $69.99 standard. For context, that aligns with the premium pricing Nintendo is setting for its Switch 2 launch titles. The good news? Xbox Game Pass subscriptions are staying put—for now.
This isn’t Microsoft’s first rodeo with price increases. Back in June 2023, the company raised Xbox Series X prices in several regions (though the U.S. was spared at the time) and bumped up Xbox Game Pass costs while introducing a new standard tier. Now, it seems no market is immune, and the U.S. is feeling the pinch alongside everyone else.
