Fujifilm has just expanded its beloved Instax line with the introduction of the Instax Wide Evo, a hybrid instant camera that not only captures memories but also prints them with a flair reminiscent of old-school film cameras. Announced on January 20, 2025, this camera is set to become a favorite among photo enthusiasts looking for a blend of digital convenience and analog aesthetics.
The Instax Wide Evo takes its design cues from its predecessor, the Instax Mini Evo, but scales up for the larger Instax Wide format film. This format offers prints that are twice the width of the Mini, making it perfect for capturing landscapes, group photos, or any scene where you want to fit more into the frame.
The camera sports a sleek, retro-inspired look with a minimalist black and grey finish, giving it a modern yet nostalgic vibe. It’s slightly larger than typical Instax cameras, measuring 5.46 x 4.92 x 2.47 inches and weighing in at just over a pound. Despite its size, the camera is designed for portability with a matching black case available for an additional $49.99, allowing users to operate the camera while it’s still cased.

One of the headline features of the Instax Wide Evo is its 15.67mm lens, the widest ever seen on an Instax camera. This lens is a game-changer for those who enjoy wide-angle photography, offering a broader view of the scene. However, for those times when you want a tighter shot, a toggle switch allows you to revert to a standard view.
Unlike traditional instant cameras where you shoot and hope for the best, the Instax Wide Evo integrates digital technology to enhance user experience. It features a 3.5-inch LCD screen on the back for framing, reviewing, and editing photos before you decide to print. No more wasted film on shots you’re not thrilled with.

The camera also includes a selfie mirror on the front—a nod to the selfie culture without sacrificing the retro feel. Storage isn’t an issue either; with internal memory for 45 images and the ability to expand via a microSD card, you can shoot to your heart’s content.
Creativity is at the core of the Instax Wide Evo’s design. It offers 10 different lens effects like fisheye or vignette, and 10 film effects ranging from sepia to monochrome. These can be combined for up to 100 unique visual styles. Additionally, there’s a ‘Degree Control’ feature, allowing you to adjust the intensity of these effects directly from a dial on the lens.
For those missing the tactile feel of film photography, there are six film styles to choose from, including options that mimic the look of old film strips or add a timestamp to your photo. The nostalgic touch continues with a small crank for initiating the print process, echoing the film’s advanced levers of yesteryears.
The Instax Wide Evo isn’t just a camera; it’s also a printer for your smartphone. Through its app, available for both iOS and Android, you can print photos from your phone’s gallery or use your phone as a remote shutter, perfect for group shots or selfies where you want to be in the picture. The app also introduces a ‘Discover Feed,’ where users can share and browse images, fostering a community aspect reminiscent of social media platforms.

Availability and price
Set to hit the stores on February 4th, 2025, the Instax Wide Evo is priced at $349.95. Pre-orders are already open at retailers like Best Buy. Alongside the camera, a new brushed metallic border Instax Wide film is also available, priced at $24.99 for a 10-pack, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of your prints.
