Samsung is advancing its foldable devices. As we enter 2025, leaks and beta software releases provide an exciting preview of what Samsung plans for its foldable lineup this year.

According to a recent report by Android Authority, the latest One UI 7 beta contains some intriguing clues about Samsung’s upcoming devices. This software, essentially a sneak peek into Samsung’s future innovations, has revealed model numbers that suggest not one, not two, but three new foldable smartphones are on the horizon for 2025.

This month, January 2025, Samsung is expected to launch the next iterations of its flagship series – the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra. These models follow the predictable annual refresh cycle, continuing Samsung’s tradition of offering a range of devices to cater to different market segments.

The foldables of tomorrow

What’s particularly exciting is the confirmation of new foldable models. The codenames and model numbers hint at:

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (SM-F966): This model is expected to be the direct successor to the Galaxy Z Fold6, potentially bringing refinements in design, perhaps focusing on durability, hinge mechanism, or even display quality.
  • Samsung Galaxy Flip7 (SM-F751): The Flip series has always been about compact elegance, and with the Flip7, we might see enhancements in screen technology or camera capabilities, making it even more appealing for those who love the nostalgia of flip phones with modern tech.
  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition 2 (SM-F968): This is where things get interesting. The original Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, launched in October 2024, was a beefed-up version of the Z Fold6, boasting an improved camera system and larger, possibly more versatile displays. Its successor could push these boundaries even further, perhaps integrating new software features or hardware innovations unique to this special edition.

However, not all expected devices made it into this beta software reveal. Notably absent were the Galaxy S25 Slim and the Galaxy Z Flip FE, both of which have been subjects of speculation. The absence from this list doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t see the light of day; it could simply mean their development or launch timelines are still under wraps.

For tech enthusiasts and everyday users alike, Samsung’s commitment to foldable technology signifies a robust future where flexibility and functionality intersect. These devices could redefine what we expect from our smartphones, offering larger screens in more compact forms or even introducing new ways to interact with our devices.

The potential inclusion of a special edition model also suggests Samsung is not just focusing on the mainstream but is also keen on offering premium experiences for those willing to pay a bit more for cutting-edge features.

As we await official announcements, these leaks give us much to ponder. Will Samsung improve upon the durability issues that have plagued foldables? Could there be new software optimizations tailored for these unique form factors? And how will these devices compete with offerings from rivals like Huawei or the anticipated foldable from Apple?

Keep an eye out for Samsung’s official unveilings, likely scheduled around their traditional event times in early 2025. Until then, the tech community will be buzzing with theories and expectations, all fueled by the breadcrumbs left in Samsung’s software beta.

Stay tuned for more updates as Samsung’s 2025 foldable story unfolds.
