Apple is opening its next-generation Siri AI to third-party developers, allowing them to integrate their apps directly with the company’s redesigned virtual assistant. The new Developer Preview gives developers access to Siri AI capabilities across iPhone, iPad, and Mac, potentially making it easier for users to complete everyday tasks without manually navigating between apps.
Announced on November 3, the new preview is available through the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, and visionOS 27.3 developer betas. Apple says any developer can now bring their app’s content and actions directly into Siri AI, giving users more ways to interact with third-party services through natural language.
The update builds on Apple’s redesigned Siri, which was introduced at WWDC26 as part of its next-generation Apple Intelligence experience. Unlike traditional voice assistant integrations, the new Siri AI is designed to understand personal context, recognize what’s happening on screen, and respond to more conversational requests.
Siri AI gets deeper third-party app integration
The biggest change for developers is the ability to use Apple’s App Intents framework to connect their apps with Siri AI. This allows developers to expose specific app features and actions so users can access them simply by asking Siri.
For example, someone could ask Siri AI to check a delivery, book a reservation, or place an order without having to manually open the relevant app and navigate through its interface. Siri AI can understand requests expressed in natural language and execute the custom actions developers make available.
Apple is also introducing a new concept called skills, which allows developers to combine multiple actions into a single experience. This should be particularly useful for more complicated requests that require several steps rather than a single command.
Another addition is support for surfacing entities through the Spotlight semantic index. Siri AI can now access a wider range of indexed information instead of being restricted to entities that fit an existing data schema.
Together, these capabilities give developers more flexibility in deciding how users interact with their apps through Apple’s AI assistant.
Apple is expanding Siri AI across its own apps
Apple is also bringing these capabilities to its own software ecosystem, with integrations rolling out across several built-in apps.
The supported apps include Calendar, Files, Finder, Journal, Mail, Maps, Messages, Music, Notes, Photos, Preview, Reminders, Safari, Shortcuts, and Weather.
These integrations are designed to make everyday tasks more contextual. For instance, users can ask Siri AI to find a coffee shop they visited the previous week or archive files that they haven’t opened in more than a year.
Rather than relying entirely on individual commands, Siri AI can use personal context and information available across Apple’s apps to understand what users are trying to accomplish.
Apple says developers can also explore these existing integrations as examples when building their own experiences.
When will developers get access to Siri AI?
The Developer Preview is available now through the iOS 27.3, iPadOS 27.3, macOS 27.3, and visionOS 27.3 betas. Developers can access Apple’s new documentation to learn about the APIs and start experimenting with Siri AI integrations.
Apple says the preview provides early access ahead of the first customer-facing release, which is expected in a few months. App Store submissions for experiences using these capabilities are scheduled to open in spring 2027, giving developers additional time to build and refine their integrations.
Apple is also inviting developers to connect with its engineers through Apple Intelligence Group Labs on November 4–5 to discuss the new APIs and get technical guidance.
There are some limitations to keep in mind. Siri AI currently supports English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, with Traditional Chinese, Norwegian, Turkish, and Vietnamese planned for a future expansion. It requires an Apple Intelligence-compatible device configured to a supported language.
Siri AI is also currently unavailable on iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS in the European Union, while Apple works toward a solution for regional availability.
Apple says certain server-powered Apple Intelligence features, including Siri AI, are subject to daily usage limits. The company plans to offer expanded access for a fee in the future, although it has not yet provided further details.
Opening Siri AI to third-party developers is an important step in Apple’s broader AI strategy. Instead of limiting its assistant to Apple’s own services, the company is giving developers an opportunity to make their apps part of a more connected, conversational experience across its devices.
