Apple’s newest Mac mini has already received one of its first notable discounts. Amazon has dropped the base 2026 Mac mini with the M6 chip to $779.99, down from its $899 list price, saving shoppers $119 (about 13%). The retailer also marks it as the lowest price in the past 30 days, making this one of the best opportunities yet to pick up Apple’s latest compact desktop.
The discounted configuration includes Apple’s M6 chip with a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU, 16GB of unified memory, and a 256GB SSD. While this is the entry-level model, it delivers a substantial performance boost over previous generations, with Apple claiming up to 40% faster CPU performance, 2x faster graphics and storage, and significantly improved AI capabilities thanks to the new M6 architecture.
The Mac mini retains the same compact aluminum design introduced with the previous generation, making it easy to tuck under a monitor or fit into a crowded workspace. Despite its small footprint, it supports multiple high-resolution external displays, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, HDMI, and Gigabit Ethernet, making it suitable for everything from office work to software development and creative workloads.

At $779.99, the base model is far more compelling than paying full retail just weeks after launch. Although 256GB of storage remains modest by today’s standards, the Mac mini’s Thunderbolt ports make it easy to add fast external SSD storage without sacrificing performance.

Should you buy it?
If you’ve been waiting to upgrade an older Intel Mac, an Apple Silicon Mac, or even a Windows desktop, this is a strong early discount on Apple’s newest desktop. The M6 model delivers meaningful CPU, GPU, and AI improvements while undercutting its launch price by nearly $120.
However, buyers who expect to keep the machine for many years or work with large media libraries may want to consider stepping up to a 512GB configuration, since internal storage cannot be upgraded later.
